Sixth-generation Subaru Impreza Hatchback (GU) is a compact five-door C-segment hatchback with permanent Symmetrical AWD and a boxer engine. It was unveiled on November 17, 2022 at the Los Angeles Auto Show; U.S. sales began in 2023 as a 2024 model year, and in Germany on January 27, 2024. The sedan was dropped for this generation: Impreza is now hatchback only.

What changed in the sixth generation
The new Impreza rides on an updated Subaru Global Platform. The body received a full inner frame and more structural adhesive, so, according to Subaru, torsional rigidity increased by 10% compared with its predecessor. From the sporty WRX, the hatchback inherited a dual-pinion steering rack — the steering responds more precisely and with less effort.
The manual transmission is gone in this generation: all versions use the Lineartronic CVT. Impreza is built only in Japan, at the Ota plant (Gunma Prefecture).
What they dropped
- The sedan body style — it has not been produced after 2023.
- The manual transmission.
- From the 2026 model year in the U.S. — the base Base trim.
Which engines are fitted to the Impreza Hatchback
The engine lineup depends on the market. All engines are naturally aspirated boxer fours; all work with a CVT and permanent all-wheel drive.
U.S. and Canada
- 2.0 FB20D — 152 hp (113 kW), 197 Nm. Sport trim.
- 2.5 FB25D — 182 hp (136 kW), 241 Nm in the 2024 model year; from the 2026 model year, the revised engine for the RS has 180 hp and 241 Nm (178 lb-ft).
Europe
In Germany and other EU countries, only one version is sold — 2.0ie e-Boxer. It is a mild hybrid: the 2.0 petrol engine makes 136 hp (100 kW) and 182 Nm, assisted by a 12.3 kW electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. 0–100 km/h takes 10.6 s, top speed is 199 km/h, WLTP consumption is 7.3 l/100 km, and CO₂ emissions are 166 g/km.
The CVT has a manual mode with eight fixed “gears” and steering-wheel paddles. That is where the “8-speed” wording in descriptions comes from — there is no eight-speed manual in the Impreza.
Technical specifications and dimensions
The manufacturer publishes slightly different dimensions for Europe and the U.S. — the table shows both sets of data as presented by the sources.
| Parameter | Europe: 2.0ie e-Boxer | U.S.: 2.0 / 2.5 |

The 130 mm ground clearance is typical for a regular hatchback. If you need more, Subaru offers the Crosstrek on the same platform: see our review of the third-generation Subaru Crosstrek.
What equipment is available in the trims
The basic set across all markets includes the latest-generation EyeSight driver-assistance system with automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane centering. For the 2026 model year in the U.S., Subaru lists the following equipment.
Impreza Sport
- Multimedia Plus infotainment with an 11.6-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six speakers;
- dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and push-button start, SI-DRIVE modes;
- LED headlights that swivel with steering input, LED fog lights;
- 18-inch dark gray alloy wheels;
- factory roof crossbar mounting points;
- 60/40 split-folding rear seat with armrest.
Impreza RS
- blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert;
- automatic emergency steering and emergency lane keep assist;
- All-Weather package, leather-wrapped steering wheel, wireless smartphone charging;
- black grille, mirrors, and side spoilers, sport front seats with red side bolsters.
For both trims, a sunroof is available separately; for the RS, a Harman Kardon audio system and power adjustment for the driver’s seat are also offered.
Interior and trunk
The center of the dashboard is occupied by an 11.6-inch infotainment screen; RS trim features metal- and carbon-look accents. The rear bench has three seats, and in the RS there are also USB-A and USB-C ports for rear passengers. Trunk volume for the European version is 315 l, and up to 1 297 l with the seatbacks folded.
Because this volume is limited, owners often install roof crossbars: the Impreza has factory mounting points, so you can choose a rack or cargo box in the roof racks for Impreza 2023+ section.
What’s new for the 2026 model year
In July 2025, Subaru announced U.S. pricing for the 2026 model year Impreza. Main changes:
- the base trim was removed — only Sport and RS remain;
- the RS received a revised 2.5 with 180 hp;
- the 11.6-inch infotainment and wireless CarPlay and Android Auto became standard;
- an emergency lane keep function appeared for versions with blind-spot monitoring;
- a new Citron Yellow Pearl color and black rear badges.
U.S. prices: Sport — from $26 595, RS — from $29 495 excluding delivery to the dealer. In Germany, at the start of sales in 2024, the Impreza e-Boxer cost from €34 990.
We wrote separately about the most powerful version — Subaru Impreza RS: a sporty all-wheel-drive hatchback.
Which accessories to choose for the Impreza
For the sixth generation, we already have model-specific Stingray 3D rubber floor mats with high sides — the first thing worth installing in an all-wheel-drive car that’s driven in winter too. They come with a branded Subaru badge and floor mounting clips so the mat does not slide under the pedals. For the trunk, a universal polyurethane mat that can be trimmed to the floor size works well.
The full assortment for the model is collected on the Subaru Impreza 2023+ tuning page, and the mats are in a separate section of mats for Impreza 2023+. If you have a previous-generation hatchback, see accessories for Impreza 2016–2023 — the body dimensions differ, and parts from one generation do not fit the other.
We ship via Nova Poshta across all of Ukraine.
