Volkswagen T5 Transporter 2003-2010 Lower grille cover (full)

Description

This is a full lower winter cover for the grille in the front bumper of the Volkswagen T5 Transporter model years 2003–2010, i.e. the pre-facelift T5. It covers not only the central opening above the license plate, but also the two side openings (“pockets”) of the bumper; finish — matte, black ABS plastic, mounting hardware is included, manufacturer — Digital Designs.

How is the full lower cover different from the short one and the upper one?

On the T5 2003–2010, cold air reaches the radiator through two zones: the upper grille with the emblem between the headlights and the grille in the bumper below it. There is a separate cover for each zone in the catalog, and they are sold separately.

The full cover is noticeably longer than the short one: according to the product-card data, the box for the full one is 120 × 26 × 6 cm, for the short one — 72 × 16 × 7 cm. The full one goes into the side pockets of the bumper, so it is needed specifically for the factory T5 Transporter bumper with such pockets. To avoid a mistake, compare the cover photo with your bumper: if there are no side openings or the bumper is not factory, send a front-end photo to the manager.

What does the “Choose shade” selection mean?

The “shade” parameter on this page refers to the surface texture of the cover. The current version is matte: black ABS plastic with a textured surface on which small scratches from a brush and snow are less noticeable. The color, material, and комплектation are the same for the entire cover, so there is no need to choose anything separately.

Which T5 does it fit, and how to tell the pre-facelift from the 2010 facelift?

The cover is made for the T5 Transporter 2003–2010. In 2010, the T5 received a facelift (called GP): the headlights, grille, and bumper changed, so the lower covers before and after the update are not interchangeable. For the T5 2010–2015 there is a separate lower cover in the bumper and an upper grille cover T5 2010–2015. For vehicles produced in 2009–2010, determine it not by the registration documents but by the front end — the headlights and bumper.

Multivan and Caravelle T5 have a bumper different from the cargo Transporter, so there are separate product cards in the catalog for their grille covers: Multivan T5 2003–2010 and Caravelle T5 2004–2010.

How to install and when to remove?

The cover is installed on the outside over the factory bumper grille, without removing the grille or drilling. The installation type per the product card is hooks; the kit includes the cover and mounting hardware. Before installation, clean the grille of dirt, snow, and ice, test-fit the cover along the contour together with the side parts, fasten evenly, and after the first trip check the fasteners.

The cover is installed when cold weather is stable and removed when it warms up. Use the engine temperature gauge as a reference: if in traffic or under load it rises above the usual level, the cover should be removed. When the vehicle drives a lot in the city and idles, owners usually install both the upper and lower covers; for highway driving, the upper one is often enough.
