
How Does Night Vision Work in a Car?

Night driving is always associated with risks: headlights illuminate only a limited area, and pedestrians or animals can appear suddenly. It allows you to «see» in the dark at distances of up to 200–300 meters, significantly improving safety. System operating principle
There are two main types: active and passive.
- Passive (thermal imaging): Uses a long-wave infrared camera that detects heat emitted by objects. Living beings (pedestrians, animals) stand out clearly on the black-and-white image.
- Active: Emits near-infrared light (invisible to the eye), which reflects off objects, and the camera captures the reflection.
How the information is displayed
The image is transmitted to the driver in real time.
- On the central display or instrument panel.
- In some models, the system can project warnings onto the HUD to minimize distraction.
- The system automatically highlights warm objects (for example, pedestrians) in yellow or red and issues a warning signal.
Night vision does not replace headlights but complements them, reducing the risk of accidents in the dark. This technology is especially useful on country roads and has proven its effectiveness in the premium segment.
