Smart tow bar from Audi
The premium crossover of the German brand Audi Q7 contains various systems made with the latest technology. In this review, we want to talk about the innovative "smart" towbar that is used on this car.
First you need to immediately understand that driving an Audi Q7 with a trailer is the work of a whole complex of systems. For the operation of this unit, elements such as a video camera, parking sensors, a towing device, as well as various auxiliary control units are used. The towbar itself has the function of folding and unfolding. This process is carried out by activating the drive automatic mechanism. The ball head of the towbar has a special sensor that determines the angle of the trailer in relation to the machine.

The trailer control process is carried out using the MMI multimedia system unit. Any driver who encounters this system for the first time will be able to cope without additional skills. In order to perform a maneuver, the driver can set the desired angle of rotation of the trailer, and then fix the trajectory of the car. Further, as soon as the trailer enters the field of view of the parking slot, the system turns the car in such a way that the “tail” hits the specified place. At the end of the maneuver, the vehicle is leveled and no “break” is allowed between the trailer and the vehicle.

This tow hitch is sold only assembled with an electronic module. The price of the kit will be approximately $3,400. This does not take into account the cost of connecting this device, which can be at least $200. The manufacturer recommends this device as particularly suitable for transporting, for example, a trailer or a boat.
