DIY Tuning: How to Install a Spoiler

Installing a spoiler isn’t as simple a procedure as it may seem at first glance. So, if you have the right specialists in mind, it’s better to entrust the car to them. But if you want to do the tuning yourself, then this article is just for you. Just remember that incorrect installation will cancel out the benefits of this part and can even worsen the car’s aerodynamics.

Spoiler installation: step-by-step instructions

1. Mark the position of the part and the mounting holes.

To do this, place the accessory against the body surface and trace it with a marker. Also mark the metal drilling points with dots (try to be максимально attentive).

2. Drill holes in the body.

This is only needed if the vehicle manufacturer hasn’t предусмотрено factory mounting points for spoiler installation. To make the holes, drill a slightly smaller diameter than required. And only after you once again make sure the drilled points fully match the location of the mounting points on the spoiler, you can move on to a larger drill bit.

Important : Keep the drill strictly perpendicular to the body surface, and never wipe off flying shavings by hand — only blow them off, otherwise you’ll scratch the paintwork. Also don’t forget to touch up any paint chips that appear so they don’t become a source of corrosion later on.

3. Secure it.

Our car tuning store offers spoilers that already include all necessary mounting hardware in the kit. So you need to place a polypropylene washer (included) into the holes, install the spoiler using the special bolts, and cover the mounting points with special caps.

Spoiler installation: useful tips

• If for some reason you can’t tighten the bolts firmly, we recommend using hex nuts together with them.
• If there are no factory mounting points предусмотрено, you don’t necessarily have to drill the body — you can use sealant adhesive. In this case, it’s not recommended to drive fast during the first three days.
• Instead of polypropylene seals, you can place a thin piece of vacuum rubber, suede, or thin leather at the bracket mounting points.
• To prevent the joint areas between the spoiler and the body from rusting, treat them with wax, silicone, or regular engine oil.
