Laser headlights: fiction or the future of cars?

Car headlights used halogen lamp technology for a long time, then switched to more efficient light-emitting diodes (LED). But development does not stand still. Laser headlights are a novelty, which promise to illuminate the road more brightly and at a greater distance than ever before. Let's find out what laser headlights are and how they work. You can also significantly improve your car if you use tuning accessories, a large assortment of which is available in our online store.
Laser projector in your car?
Fortunately, modern automotive laser headlights do not emit a blinding laser beam. They are based on an interesting principle of light transformation.
- Light source: the headlight is not equipped with lasers, but with blue laser diodes. They emit blue light with a high concentration of energy.
- Light conversion: blue light hits a special phosphor (yellow fluorescent material). Under the influence of blue light, the phosphor emits white light with high brightness.
- Optical system: the received white light is focused by the headlight lenses and directed to the road.
Advantages of laser headlights
- Incredible lighting range. Laser headlights are able to illuminate the road several hundred meters ahead, which significantly exceeds the capabilities of LED headlights.
- Low power consumption. Despite the high brightness, laser headlights consume less energy than LED ones. This has a positive effect on fuel consumption.
- Compact size. Laser diodes are much smaller than traditional light sources. This makes it possible to create more subtle and stylish headlights.
Disadvantages of laser headlights
- High cost. Laser headlights are an expensive technology, so they are currently installed only on premium cars.
- The complexity of the design. Repairing laser headlights can be difficult and expensive.
- Legal restrictions. In some countries there are restrictions on the brightness of car headlights. This can affect the spread of laser light.
The future by laser?
Laser headlights are an innovative technology that has a number of advantages over traditional light sources. As costs come down and legal restrictions are lifted, laser headlights may become the standard for cars of the future.
