What is hydro dipping?

The Hydro dipping technology goes by several names — Aquaprint, water transfer printing, immersion printing, 3D decorating). All of these methods involve applying a water-soluble film to various surfaces, providing both a decorative and protective function. The film can be applied to glass, plastic, wood, steel, ceramic, porcelain, leather, rubber, and many other surfaces.

Benefits of hydro dipping (immersion)

After application, the hydro dipping film protects the surface from cracking and damage caused by temperature fluctuations and other negative environmental impacts. In addition, the film doesn’t fade, doesn’t change color, and doesn’t dry out even under strong vibration, friction, and UV exposure. And a surface treated this way can be washed with cleaners that contain solvents and other aggressive agents.

What equipment is needed for immersion printing?

If you decide to use hydro dipping as a commercial service, we recommend purchasing dedicated hydro dipping equipment, a compressor for working with clear coats, paints, and activator, as well as spray guns (separate ones for primer, activator, clear coat, and paint).

Once your business gains momentum, you can invest in a dedicated paint booth, infrared drying, and tools for rinsing parts.

How to choose a space for hydro dipping equipment?

There are no strict requirements for the premises. Still, it’s preferable to have at least 20 m² and, besides the main workroom, a small enclosed area for storing film, activator, and other consumables. You can read more about choosing a space HERE.

How many people are needed to do the work?

It all depends on the scale of “production.” Ideally, you need 3 people: one prepares the parts for decorating (washing, cleaning, degreasing, sanding, priming, etc.); the second applies the immersion film; the third seals the finished parts with a protective clear coat.

Is immersion printing popular?

Just a few years ago, aqua immersion printing was in high demand abroad and almost unknown in Ukraine and Europe. Today the situation has changed dramatically. And the rapid growth in popularity says only one thing: it won’t be a year before hydro dipping pushes out other “film-based” tuning technologies. What’s more, decorating with a water-soluble film is used not only in car tuning, but also for coating household appliances, electronics, mobile phones, retail displays, furniture, plastic wall panels, window frames, etc.
