Ford F-150 Lightning (here people search for it as “Ford F-150 electric” or “F-150 Lightning”) is the electric version of the best-selling pickup in the USA, the 14th-generation F-150. Ford unveiled it in May 2021, and series production at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center plant in Dearborn (Michigan) started on April 26, 2022. In four years, Lightning became, in Ford’s own words, America’s most popular electric pickup, but in December 2025 the company stopped its production and announced a successor with a gasoline generator. We break down what Lightning was like in its final 2025 model year, what batteries and range it has, and what you should know if you are bringing such a pickup to Ukraine.

F-150 Lightning at a glance

  • Body — four-door SuperCrew cab for five and a 5.5-foot (1.7 m) bed; steel frame, cab and bed made of an aluminum alloy.
  • Two electric motors, one per axle — all-wheel drive in all versions.
  • Three batteries: 98 kWh (Standard Range), 123 and 131 kWh (Extended Range).
  • EPA range — from 240 to 320 miles, i.e. 386–515 km.
  • Towing — up to 10,000 lb (4,536 kg), payload — up to 1,056 kg.
  • Under the hood, instead of an engine — the 400 L Mega Power Frunk with outlets.
  • Production was halted in October 2025 and officially ended in December 2025.

Trims and batteries

For the 2025 model year, Lightning was offered in five trims: Pro, XLT, Flash, Lariat, and Platinum. The battery determined both power and range, so you should choose the version primarily based on it.

  • 98 kWh (Standard Range) — Pro and XLT: 452 hp (337 kW), 240 miles (386 km) EPA.
  • 123 kWh (Extended Range) — Flash, and for Pro only in fleet orders: 536 hp (400 kW), 300 miles (483 km).
  • 131 kWh (Extended Range) — Lariat and Platinum: 580 hp (433 kW), 320 miles (515 km); in Platinum on 22-inch wheels — 300 miles (483 km).

Torque is the same in all versions — 775 lb-ft, or 1,050 Nm. Ford cites 0–60 mph in 4 s for the 123 kWh battery and under 4 s for 131 kWh. In early reviews, including ours, 432 and 570 hp were mentioned — those were the figures from the 2021 announcement; production pickups received 452 and 580 hp.

The suspension is independent on both ends: double wishbones up front, and an independent layout with trailing arms and springs in the rear. It is precisely the rear independent suspension, which the regular F-150 with a solid axle does not have, that makes Lightning smoother over asphalt waves, but it is less suited for serious off-roading. Curb weight is around 3 tonnes, so with a heavy trailer the range drops by multiples — this applies to all electric pickups, and Chevrolet Silverado EV or Rivian R1T are no exception.

Charging and Pro Power Onboard

DC fast charging at a 150 kW station adds about 62 miles (100 km) in 10 minutes for the 98 kWh battery and 65 miles (105 km) for the larger batteries; 15 to 80% takes 32 and 38 minutes respectively. The standard connector is American CCS1. From February 29, 2024, Lightning owners in the USA and Canada gained access to the Tesla Supercharger network via an NACS adapter, which Ford handed out for free through the end of June 2024.

From a home Ford Connected Charge Station at 48 A, a full charge from 15% takes 10–13 hours depending on the battery; from a mobile charger at 30 A/240 V — 15–20 hours. The Ford Charge Station Pro supports Intelligent Backup Power: during an outage, the pickup powers the house.

A separate strong point of Lightning is Pro Power Onboard. Standard is 2.4 kW and 120 V outlets in the cabin, bed, and front trunk; optional (standard on Platinum) — 9.6 kW and a 240 V outlet in the bed.

Design, interior, and equipment

On the outside, Lightning differs from the regular F-150 by a light bar across the entire front between the LED headlights (from XLT), a closed grille, its own wheel designs, and an LED bar on the tailgate in Lariat and Platinum. The hood is power-operated, and underneath it is a 400 L Mega Power Frunk with a removable mat, hooks, and outlets. Wheels are 18 inches on Pro and XLT, 20 inches on Flash and Lariat, and 22 inches on Platinum.

Pro and XLT have SYNC 4 with a horizontal 12-inch screen; from Flash — SYNC 4A with a vertical 15.5-inch display; the digital instrument cluster is 12 inches in all versions. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the software updates over the air. Bang & Olufsen audio — 8 speakers in Flash and Lariat, 14 in Platinum. The Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0 package standardly includes automatic braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage, lane keeping, and driver alertness monitoring; from Flash, adaptive cruise with Stop-and-Go and lane centering is added, and BlueCruise hands-free driving on mapped US highways is optional. A 360-degree camera is fitted from XLT, and on Pro it is optional.

End of production and F-150 Lightning EREV

Lightning sales in the USA grew for three consecutive years: 15,617 pickups in 2022, 24,165 in 2023, and 33,510 in 2024. In 2025, 27,307 vehicles were sold, with a record third quarter (around 10 thousand) driven by the end of the federal EV tax credit on September 30, 2025.

On September 16, 2025, a fire damaged the aluminum rolling mill of Novelis in Oswego (New York), one of Ford’s key suppliers. In October, Ford halted the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center and redirected scarce aluminum to more profitable gasoline and hybrid F-150 and Super Duty models. On December 15, 2025, the company officially announced that production of the current Lightning had been completed. By September 2026, Lightning is no longer on sale on Ford’s US website — only inventory and used vehicles remain.

The next generation of the F-150 Lightning will be an EREV — an electric vehicle with range extended by a gasoline generator. As before, only the electric motors turn the wheels, while the generator charges the battery; Ford promises a total range of more than 700 miles (over 1,100 km) and acceleration faster than 5 s. It will be assembled at the same Rouge Electric Vehicle Center, but Ford has not yet announced the sales start date.

F-150 Lightning in Ukraine

Officially, Lightning was not sold in Ukraine, so all vehicles here are used imports from the USA. On AUTO.RIA in late September 2026, there are more than 13 listings. From January 1, 2026, the VAT exemption on importing EVs was canceled: 20% VAT and an excise duty of 1 euro for each kWh of battery are added to the customs value — for 131 kWh that is 131 euros. About the risks of such a purchase — in the article “Cars from the USA: is it worth ordering a vehicle from overseas”.

Before buying, check the battery condition with diagnostics (Ford warranty is at least 70% capacity over 8 years, but it is valid in the USA), the recall history by VIN, and the availability of a CCS1–CCS2 adapter for Ukrainian fast chargers. The onboard Type 1 port is single-phase, so from Type 2 AC charging via an adapter the pickup will draw only one phase — a full charge of the 131 kWh battery will take almost a day.

Tuning and accessories

Lightning is built on the body of the 14th-generation F-150, so some parts from the Ford F-150 2020+ tuning section fit it. But the front end and wheel arches are unique, so choose products with the note “for Lightning” — like Premium mud flaps for Lightning. Universal solutions work well for the bed — pickup bed crossbars for securing cargo and a polyurethane bed floor mat.
