Mercedes-Benz Vito and Sprinter translates to electric traction

Daimler plans to significantly increase its investment in the development of electric motors for Mercedes-Benz Vans over the next few years. In particular, it is reported that the amount of investment is at least 150 million euros. The main models will be commercial vehicles Vito and Sprinter, which will be produced along with standard modifications.
In addition, the German brand plans to start mastering the next generation Sprinter model at the Düsseldorf plant, and this will require at least another 300 million euros. Earlier, the company's engineers reported that electric traction will be introduced in almost all areas of machine production. This applies to cars, buses, and trucks.
Daimler already has experience in introducing electric batteries to the Mercedes-Benz Vito commercial vehicle, but this project was not successful and production had to be frozen. Now the management of the concern is going to start all over again and approach this matter from a different angle.
Already at the beginning of next year, the concern is launching a pilot project, according to which electric models of cars will be put into operation in several German cities. A little later, together with the transport company Hermes, it is planned to bring electric Vito and Sprinter models to the roads. Their total number will be at least 1,500 units.
In addition, Daimler is trying to establish a large-scale production of traction batteries in China. This program will be implemented jointly with the Beijing Benz Automotive enterprise, and the production itself will be established in Beijing.
