The new Volkswagen Beetle will be electric and rear-wheel drive

Diesel scandal, it seems, has its positive side for the company Volkswagen. Guide brand reports that in the near future most models will be equipped with electric motors.

The Volkswagen engineers will work day and night on the development of electric vehicles. The first electric vehicles, which should appear on sale in 2022 will be model Electric Motorbus. However, this is not the car which will be able to attract the most buyers. The ultimate interest may cause the popular Volkswagen Beetle into an electric version.

One of the Directors of the German company believes that a Beetle with electrical installation must be to attract buyers not only by its internal equipment, but also appearance. In addition the car will get a rear-wheel drive and a new modular platform MEB, as the current has long been technically outdated.

It is reported that on the design of the MEB will be built over a dozen models, of which five will be released under the brand Volkswagen. The platform allows to use different types of drives: front, rear and complete.

Today's generation Beetle models should cease to exist next year, and that means that the next beetle is likely to be electric.
