Phased installation of sound insulation in cars

This material was prepared using AI tools for topic research, structuring and initial draft creation. Fact-checking, editing, expert review and final approval were performed by Maksym Vasyliovych Radomskyi.

Before proceeding with the installation of sound insulation, the car interior must be disassembled: remove all seats and trim from the dashboard, front and rear doors, and the ceiling. After that, layer-by-layer imposition of materials for sound insulation begins.

The first layer is vibroplast (ShumoFF M2, M3, M4) or vizomat (Shumoff Mix, Mix F)

What car noise insulation consists of , we have already told. But the first layer is always laid vibroplast - a self-adhesive material consisting of a rubber mixture and thickened aluminum foil. It perfectly dampens any vibrations and is ideal for anti-noise processing:

  • trunk;
  • partitions of the engine compartment;
  • floors;
  • doors;
  • tunnels and roofs;
  • hood covers.

Vibroplast, as it were, seals the base on which it is glued, as a result of which any contact of the surface with air and moisture is excluded. So this material additionally helps to fight against premature corrosion of the car body. It perfectly dampens any low-frequency noise (from the suspension and bodywork).

Before sticking, it is important to degrease the surface of the body with an alcohol-containing composition or acetone and let it dry thoroughly (about 20 minutes). Although, if time does not endure, then you can immediately glue it - Shumoff M4, M3 and M2 materials are not particularly critical of the surface quality.

Sometimes, when processing doors into which speakers are mounted, the surface is completely glued with vibroplast m2 in order to exclude acoustic closure, which significantly reduces the output of speakers in the low-frequency region. Also, a door sealed in this way allows solving the main problem of frontal acoustics - the frequency response failure in the 150-500Hz zone.

Visomat is a polymeric material on a self-adhesive basis. If you take it in your hands, it will seem too hard, so you need to warm it up. This is usually done with the help of a building hair dryer, after which the visomat becomes very plastic, and installing this type of sound insulation does not cause problems even for a beginner. Materials Shumoff Mix F and Shumoff Mix are incredibly easy to use and do not absorb moisture at all. They are used to dampen the resonance of plastic and metal elements of a car.

Second layer - splenitis (Shumoff P4, P8)

Splen is a sound and heat absorbing material based on polyethylene foam. It is produced in different thicknesses, but in practice Shumoff P4 (4 mm) and P8 (8 mm) are most often used. It has an adhesive base, and the installation of this type of sound insulation is carried out on top of the vibroplast. You can familiarize yourself with the materials P4 and P8 in more detail in the section: Noise isolation ShumoFF .
