BMW X3 G01 facelift in X3M F97 style: work done and result

BMW X3 G01 facelift in the X3M F97 style

The BMW X3 G01 has a modern design and good proportions, but the standard versions are noticeably more restrained than the sporty BMW X3M F97. In this project, the goal was to comprehensively change the vehicle’s appearance and bring it closer to the factory X3M styling without replacing the car itself.

For the conversion, we used the F97 X3M body kit for the BMW X3 G01 2022–2024. The parts were pre-fitted, prepared, painted in the body color, and installed on the vehicle. All work was carried out in Chernivtsi at the certified service center ZUBRYN AUTO STUDIO.

How does the X3M F97 style differ from the standard BMW X3 G01?

The main difference is visible in the design of the front and rear bumpers. On the X3M, they feature more complex geometry, enlarged air intakes, and distinctive lower elements. Because of this, the vehicle looks wider and sportier.

The standard BMW X3 is primarily focused on a versatile premium design. The F97 X3M style makes the body more aggressive: the front end looks lower, the side lines look tighter, and the rear gains the character of a performance model.

Importantly, this kind of facelift doesn’t turn the vehicle into a random tuning project. With the right kit and quality installation, the design stays within BMW’s factory styling.

Which body kit was installed on the BMW X3 G01?

The core of the project was the BMW X3 G01 body kit in the F97 X3M style. It is designed for a comprehensive exterior upgrade, so the result is much more noticeable than installing a single trim piece or a spoiler.

Before ordering such a kit, it’s important to consider the vehicle’s model year, factory equipment, and the presence of parking sensors, cameras, and other systems integrated into the bumpers. This allows you to verify part compatibility in advance and avoid issues during installation.

For the facelifted BMW X3 G01 2022–2024, the geometry of body elements differs from earlier versions, so the kit must be selected specifically for the exact generation and year of the vehicle.

Part preparation before painting

Installing a body kit doesn’t start with painting—it starts with a pre-fit. New parts are installed on the vehicle without final fastening, and mounting points and fitment to the fenders, headlights, hood, and adjacent body panels are checked.

This step is needed to make sure the kit’s geometry is correct before painting. If minor fitment adjustments are required, it’s better to do them before applying the paint finish.

After the test fit, the parts are prepared for painting: the surface is treated, leveled if necessary, primed, and the shade is matched to the body color.

Painting the body kit to match the vehicle color

For a proper facelift, it’s essential that the new body parts match the main body in color and clearcoat texture. This is especially important for large elements such as the front and rear bumpers.

Even a slight shade difference is clearly visible in daylight. That’s why the painting was done professionally, with color matching for the specific vehicle.

After the painting work is completed, the parts undergo a final inspection, after which the final installation of the body kit can begin.

How was the X3M body kit installed?

After removing the standard parts, the prepared F97 X3M elements were installed on the BMW X3 G01. During installation, special attention was paid to even panel gaps and the correct positioning of the bumpers relative to the fenders and lighting.

It’s also necessary to correctly transfer the vehicle’s factory equipment. Parking sensors, cameras, decorative inserts, and other elements must remain in their intended locations and function properly after the facelift is completed.

The final result is determined by installation quality. Even an expensive body kit won’t look convincing if there are uneven gaps between parts or a bumper is installed misaligned.

Cost of upgrading a BMW X3 G01 to X3M F97

The cost of the F97 X3M body kit for the BMW X3 G01 in this project was 53 940 UAH. Preparation, painting of the parts, and installation cost 35 000 UAH.

What changed after installing the body kit?

After the facelift, the BMW X3 G01 became noticeably more aggressive. The front end gained the signature X3M shapes, the vehicle’s width increased visually, and the lower part of the body started to look sportier.

The result is best seen by comparing the vehicle before and after the work. The standard X3 has a more restrained character, whereas after installing the F97 X3M body kit it is perceived as a much sportier version.

  • more aggressive front-end design;
  • more expressive and more massive bumpers;
  • visually wider body;
  • sportier vehicle silhouette;
  • styling closer to the BMW X3M F97;
  • a cohesive result without a collection of random tuning elements.

Why is a comprehensive facelift better than individual parts?

On the BMW X3, you can install a front splitter, diffuser, trims, or a spoiler separately. These parts also change the appearance, but they don’t deliver the same effect as a full replacement of key body elements.

With a comprehensive conversion to the X3M style, the front and rear are executed in a single concept. Thanks to this, the vehicle looks complete from any angle, and the difference from the standard version is noticeable immediately.

This option is especially relevant for owners who plan to keep the vehicle for several years and want to significantly refresh its appearance without switching to another model.

BMW X3 G01 conversion result

As a result, the BMW X3 G01 received a full exterior update in the X3M F97 style. The new body kit made the vehicle sportier, more substantial, and visually more expensive, while preserving BMW’s recognizable factory styling.

In projects like this, it’s not only the choice of the kit that matters. Proper test fitting, quality painting, precise panel gaps, and professional installation directly affect how close the finished vehicle will look to a factory execution.

This BMW X3 G01 shows that installing a full F97 X3M body kit can significantly change the vehicle’s character without radical вмешання in the body structure, turning a standard crossover into a much more expressive tuning project.
