Suzuki Across: PHEV hybrid crossover overview, specs and generation differences

Suzuki Across (we call it “Suzuki Akross” or “Suzuki Ekross”) is an all-wheel-drive crossover with a plug-in hybrid PHEV powertrain that Suzuki has been selling in Europe since late 2020. Technically it is a Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid with different styling: the car is supplied by Toyota as part of the alliance between the two companies. In 2026, the Across moved to a second generation—now based on the sixth-generation RAV4, with a 22.7 kWh battery and an electric range of up to 129 km on the EAER cycle. We break down both generations, specs, equipment, charging, and how this model makes its way to Ukraine.

Why Suzuki sells the RAV4 under its own name
Suzuki is known for compact cars with small engines, and it did not have its own plug-in hybrids. To reduce the average CO₂ emissions of its European lineup, the company agreed with Toyota on a model swap, and the first car Toyota began supplying to Suzuki was the Across. Suzuki unveiled it on July 1, 2020, and sales in Europe began in the fall of that year. The second such model in fall 2020 was the Suzuki Swace wagon based on the Toyota Corolla Touring Sports.
In the first generation, the differences from the RAV4 are minimal and mostly relate to the front end: a different bumper, its own LED headlights, a grille with the Suzuki badge, and branded alloy wheels. The body, interior and hardware are from Toyota.
First generation (2020–2025)
The first Across is a “brother” of the Toyota RAV4 2019–2025 in plug-in hybrid form. The powertrain consists of a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated Dynamic Force engine (136 kW, 185 hp, 227 Nm), a 134 kW front electric motor (182 hp, 270 Nm), and a 40 kW rear motor (54 hp, 121 Nm). Together they produce 225 kW (306 hp); 0–100 km/h acceleration according to ADAC is 6.0 s. The 18.1 kWh battery is located under the floor and provides up to 75 km of electric driving; in EV mode the car can go up to 135 km/h.
The weak point of the first generation is charging. The onboard charger is single-phase, max 6.6 kW, and there is no DC fast charging. According to Suzuki Austria, from a household outlet (8–10 A) the battery charges in 7.5–9 hours; from a 16 A station it takes about 5 hours.
In February 2023, Suzuki refreshed the Across: a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster appeared, the multimedia touchscreen grew from 9 to 10.5 inches, wireless Apple CarPlay (Android Auto via cable), and a new Platinum White Pearl Metallic color. The drivetrain remained unchanged.
In August 2023, a recall campaign was announced for the first generation: in the DC/DC converter that charges the 12-volt battery from the traction battery, the rectifier module could be damaged, creating a fire risk. Cars produced from January 2020 to December 2022 (6,095 units worldwide) were affected; the converter was replaced.
Second generation (from 2026)
Suzuki presented the new Across in early February 2026; it is built on the sixth-generation Toyota RAV4 and once again mirrors the donor in almost everything except the badges and trim. The first buyers received the car in the Netherlands; in Germany, sales start in fall 2026.
The main changes are in the new-generation hybrid system. The 2.5 L engine is now tuned to 105 kW (143 hp) and works mostly as an assistant: the front electric motor grows to 150 kW (204 hp, 271 Nm), while the rear remains at 40 kW (123 Nm). The power control unit and DC/DC converter are integrated into the front e-axle, and silicon carbide power semiconductors reduce energy losses. System output is 227 kW (309 hp), 0–100 km/h is 6.1 s.
The battery increases to 22.7 kWh, and electric range rises from 75 to 129 km (EAER); weighted CO₂ emissions are 32 g/km. Finally, proper charging arrives: three-phase AC up to 11 kW and DC fast charging up to 50 kW via a CCS connector. Maximum braked trailer mass increases from 1,500 to 2,000 kg.
Launch prices: in the Netherlands—from €52,695; in Austria—from €59,990.

Second-generation data are from the Suzuki Deutschland spec sheet; the Dutch Suzuki press release lists 4,600 × 1,855 mm, meaning dimensions depend on market and version. Fuel consumption in the mixed PHEV cycle should be treated cautiously: the stated 1.0–1.4 L/100 km includes trips on electricity, and with a depleted battery, according to ADAC and heise, the first generation uses about 6.6 L/100 km, the second—5.4 L/100 km.
Equipment, interior and safety
In Europe, the Across is usually sold in one richly equipped trim. In the first generation, standard items included keyless entry, a power tailgate with a sensor, dual-zone climate control, heating for the front and outer rear seats, a heated leather steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, parking sensors, a 220 V socket in the trunk, a double trunk floor, tinted rear windows, black roof rails, and 19-inch wheels.
In the second generation, the equipment is even richer:
- 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.9-inch central screen, and a head-up display;
- ventilation and heating for the front seats, 10-way power adjustment for the driver’s seat with lumbar support;
- wireless smartphone charging, five USB-C ports, dual-zone climate control;
- power tailgate with hands-free (foot) opening, 18-inch wheels with 235/60 R18 tires;
- safety: collision avoidance system with pedestrian and cyclist detection, emergency steering assist, adaptive cruise control that considers navigation data and two vehicles ahead, lane centering assist, 360-degree camera.
For off-road conditions there is TRAIL mode, which locks torque distribution between the axles, and SNOW mode for slippery surfaces. But this is a crossover for asphalt and dirt roads, not an off-roader: there is no low range and no mechanical locks.
Suzuki Across in Ukraine
Officially, the Across is not sold in Ukraine: it is not in the model range of Suzuki’s Ukrainian distributor, and on AUTO.RIA as of late September 2026 there are no listings at all. Cars reach us via private imports from Europe.
For Ukraine this is more convenient than American PHEVs: the European Across has a Type 2 connector, and the second generation also has CCS2, so it fits domestic charging stations without adapters. For daily electric driving, the first generation needs a home charger: from a wall outlet it charges for a long time. The engine, hybrid system and suspension are the same as in the corresponding-generation Toyota RAV4, so you can service the Across in the same places as the RAV4 PHEV.
Accessories for the Across
We don’t yet have dedicated model-specific accessories for the Across in our catalog, so we honestly recommend universal solutions for the cabin and trunk: rubber floor mats, a trunk mat, organizers, and mud flaps. The Across body is the RAV4 body, so some accessories for the RAV4 of the same generation may theoretically fit, but compatibility with the Across is not indicated on product pages—check with a manager. Ideas for upgrades for city use and long trips are collected in the piece “Starter upgrade for the Suzuki Across for the city and long trips”, and everything for other models of the brand is in the Suzuki tuning section.
We deliver via Nova Poshta across Ukraine; orders from ₴15,000 are delivered free of charge by our own transport.
