Immersion Seal: collection of film technology

Immersion printing is an old technology, but the possibilities are new. And it is about them, or rather about some features of the correct selection of film, that we will describe in this article.

Immersion printing: a bit of history

Back in the 80s, Toyota was the first to use immersion printing technology (other names are hydroprinting, hydroprinting), and it did not use it in a car. And only 10 years later, this method of decorating surfaces began to be actively used in the decoration of furniture facades, the manufacture of souvenirs and household goods, as well as in car tuning. And at the moment, about 95% of car companies around the world that produce cars with a wood-like interior use nothing more than aquaprint technology to obtain such a visual effect.

Aquaprint film: how to choose the right one?

As promised, we will tell you how to achieve the desired color of the decorated surface. But we want to warn you right away - it depends not only on the choice of film for hydro printing, but also on the background color (see Fig. 1).

And now let's move on to revealing our secrets of technology - this information is unique and is not available on the Internet.

• We decorate under a light or dairy tree.

To get a very light or milky tree, you need to use white paint for the background color (or a snow queen - there is not much difference in shade). A white background can be used for films MA43-1, M-1751, M-1705, M26, although you can experiment with other options (we will describe how to do this below).

PS To more accurately imagine what kind of pattern you will get as a result of decorating, you can take ordinary CDs, apply different base colors on them and attach a film on top - you will immediately see the difference in patterns with different backgrounds. Just do not forget to make a signature on the discs: film number + base color number .

• Aquaprint under yellow/brown wood.

The most popular base for obtaining yellow / brown wood (this already depends on the film) is brown paint 8004 (according to the RAL catalog), which can be used for almost all wood effect films (except black versions).

• Ebony immersion print.

What color to use for ebony film? It's up to you, but the base should be standard base wet asphalt. Sometimes, at the request of the client, we mix 50/50 with black paint. M-2234 and M-3101 films fit well on this color. Just recently, we tried to put M-2235 film on such a base and do you know what happened? The color, similar to the standard trim of the 2011 Mercedes E-Class, is ebony, with a slight brownish tinge.

• Carbon imitation.

For carbon, we use either black or wet asphalt. Although you can use lighter shades, close to gray. It depends on what kind of carbon imitation you want to get - darker or lighter.

A little secret: after the hydrographic is applied, the surface should be varnished and if at the same time the varnish is slightly darkened with black paint, then the tuning part turns out to be very spectacular in appearance, and its structure becomes very similar to real carbon.

As you can see, you can experiment endlessly with films and basic backgrounds. And this way of tuning is an opportunity to make your car truly unique.
