Winter grille cover for Renault Master, Trafic, Kangoo, Opel Vivaro and Ford Transit: which grille to cover

A winter cover for a van is chosen not by the model name, but by the specific front end. On the Renault Master, Trafic, Kangoo, Opel Vivaro, and Ford Transit, the grille changed several times over the production years, and there may be two or three open radiator areas. We break down which covers fit which body/front-end versions in the DD Tuning catalog, how to identify your option, how to install it, and when to remove it.

In brief: how not to make a mistake
- Model year is only a hint. Around facelift changeovers (Master 2014, Kangoo 2013, Trafic and Vivaro 2007), compare the grille and the emblem position with the photos on the product card.
- Zones are sold separately. The upper cover closes the radiator grille, the lower closes the opening in the bumper under the license plate, and on Trafic and Vivaro 2001–2015 there is also a middle one, above the plate.
- Matte or glossy is a matter of looks: on most cards there is a “Choose shade” switch. Matte only (ABS plastic) are: upper Master 2014–2019, lower Master 2011–2019, Opel Movano, upper Kangoo 2003–2008, lower Trafic under the plate, lower Vivaro 2007–2015, and upper Vivaro V2. The material is specified in the characteristics — ABS plastic or polystyrene depending on the item.
- Fasteners are already included: hooks or zip ties — the type is specified in the product card characteristics (for example, upper Trafic 2001–2007 and lower Master are fastened with zip ties).
Upper, middle, lower: which area the cover closes
On a van, the radiator gets air not only through the grille between the headlights. In the bumper under the license plate there is another opening, and on Trafic and Vivaro 2001–2015 there is also a narrow slit above the plate. That is why, in the winter covers for the radiator grille section, van items are divided by zones:
- upper — for the radiator grille between the headlights, the main one;
- middle — narrow, above the plate (Trafic and Vivaro 2001–2015);
- lower — wide, below the plate.
You do not have to install everything at once: the upper one blocks the main airflow to the radiator, and the lower is added when the frosts are steady. It makes sense to remove the lower cover first as soon as it warms up. For Ford Transit 2006–2018, the catalog includes only a grille cover; there is no separate lower one.
Renault Master: emblem on the hood or in the grille
For the third-generation Master (in the catalog — Master 2011–2023) there are three items, and the choice between the two upper ones is made based on where the emblem is located:
- upper winter grille Master 2010–2014 — for the early front end where the Renault diamond is on the hood and the grille is solid; the cover has no cutout;
- upper cover Master 2014–2019 — for the front end with a large emblem in the grille itself; the cover has a cutout around the emblem;
- lower 2011–2019 — under the plate, fastened with zip ties, fits both front ends.
The year 2014 appears in both upper items, so look at the emblem, not the registration documents. For Master after 2019 with the updated front end and for the new generation, there are no covers in the catalog. Opel Movano 2010–2021 is a close relative of Master, but it has its own grille, and its cover is separate — it is in the Opel winter covers section.
Renault Trafic and Opel Vivaro: what they have in common
Renault Trafic and Opel Vivaro 2001–2015 are the same van sold under two brands, and you can see this in the catalog: the lower cover under the plate has the same part numbers for both models, and the middle cover above the plate is only for the 2001–2007 front end. The upper ones, however, are different because the grille with the emblem is different.
- Trafic 2001–2015:upper winter cover Trafic, middle and lower. For the 2001–2007 and 2007–2015 front ends the covers are different, so in the transition year compare the grille and bumper with the photos on the product card.
- Vivaro 2001–2015: a separate upper for 2001–2007 and two for 2007–2015 — V1 and V2. They are designed for different versions of the factory grille: in the photo on the Vivaro V2 upper cover card, a chrome strip runs above the grille. Compare both photos with your vehicle.
The next generations are already separate products with different part numbers: for Trafic from 2015 there is the Trafic 2015–2020 winter cover, and for Vivaro — the 2015–2019 cover. Do not consider them interchangeable, and for Trafic with the updated front end after 2020, the 2015–2020 cover is not listed.
Renault Kangoo: three front-end variants
On Kangoo, the covers are tied not only to the generation, but also to the facelift within it:
- Kangoo 1998–2008: for the early front end 1998–2003 — only the lower; for the updated 2003–2008 — upper and lower.
- Kangoo 2008–2020, front end up to 2013: upper and lower winter grille Kangoo 2008–2013.
- Kangoo 2008–2020, front end from 2013: only the lower (2013+); there is no upper for this front end in the catalog.
The year 2013 occurs with both front ends, so choose the cover by the bumper and grille photos. For the new-generation Kangoo (from 2021), there are no covers in the catalog. All brand items are collected in the Renault winter covers section — there are also covers for Dokker and Duster there.
Ford Transit: 2006–2014 and 2014–2018
On Transit, each generation has one grille cover, and you cannot swap it between generations:
- Transit 1991–2000 — a separate winter grille;
- Transit 2000–2014 — Transit 2006–2014 winter cover, i.e., for the updated front end; for cars 2000–2006 it is not in the catalog;
- Transit from 2014 — Transit 2014–2018 winter cover, in matte and glossy versions.
Transit Custom is a separate model with a different front end; standard Transit covers are not installed on it. For Transit after 2019, the 2014–2018 cover is not listed. All items are in the Ford winter covers section.

When to install, when to remove, and what to consider
The cover is installed when the cold has set in: the engine takes noticeably longer to reach operating temperature, and the cabin heater takes a long time to start blowing warm. It is removed in spring, with the arrival of steady warmth. During the season, watch the coolant temperature gauge: if during a thaw, under load, or in traffic it rises above what is usual, remove the lower cover first, and if necessary the upper as well.
- Camera, sensors, radar. If your van has a camera, parking sensor, or adaptive cruise-control radar in the grille or bumper, when test-fitting make sure the cover does not block them: such versions are not described separately on the product cards.
- Emblem. The cover for Master 2014–2019 has a cutout for the emblem, while for Master 2010–2014 it is solid. If the cutout does not “line up” with your diamond, you have a different front end.
- Fasteners. Use the hardware from the kit and after a few washes check that the cover is held securely.

How it works
- Identify the front end
- Compare your van’s grille, emblem location, and bumper with the product card photo, not just the model year. Decide which areas you will cover: the upper, lower, and for Trafic and Vivaro 2001–2015 also the middle.
- Clean the grille
- Wash and dry the factory grille and the openings in the bumper, remove snow, ice, and dirt so the cover fits snugly.
- Test-fit the cover
- Place the cover against the factory grille and make sure it sits evenly, does not block the camera or sensors, and the cutout, if there is one, matches the emblem.
- Secure with the included fasteners
- Attach the hooks from the kit to the factory grille and secure the cover; fasten the lower Master cover with the cable ties from the kit.
- Check after driving
- After the first drive and a few washes, make sure the cover stays firmly in place, and keep an eye on the engine temperature gauge.
