New Mitsubishi Pajero 2026: body-on-frame SUV with Super Select 4WD-II

Mitsubishi has unveiled the all-new Pajero: ladder frame, a 2.4 L diesel making 204 hp and 480 N·m, an 8-speed automatic, Super Select 4WD-II all-wheel drive, and seven seats. Here’s what we know so far and when to expect it in Ukraine.

Mitsubishi brought back the Pajero. On September 2, 2026, the company unveiled an all-new generation of the legendary off-roader — and it is not a crossover with a loud name, but a true body-on-frame SUV with a low-range gearbox, seven seats, and the Super Select 4WD-II all-wheel-drive system. Here is what is known about the new model, how it differs from the Pajero Sport, and when to expect it in Ukraine.

Contents

Key points in 30 seconds

  • Frame. The body sits on a rigid ladder frame — what Pajero was loved for off-road.
  • 2.4 L diesel. 204 hp (150 kW) and 480 N·m, new 8-speed automatic transmission.
  • Super Select 4WD-II. Four drivetrain modes, low-range gearing, and seven drive modes — from “Eco” to “Rock”.
  • Seven seats in three rows; the second row slides 150 mm.
  • Production — Thailand. Sales start in Thailand, Japan, and Australia, then expand to around 100 countries worldwide.

Design and dimensions

On the outside, the new Pajero continues the brand’s Dynamic Shield styling: a massive front end, a high hood, and straight body lines. It is a large vehicle — almost 4.9 m long and over 1.9 m tall.

ParameterValue

Height1 910 mm (with 20-inch tires)
Wheelbase2 870 mm
Track, front / rear1 630 / 1 630 mm
Ground clearance230 mm (with 20-inch tires)

Engine and transmission

Under the hood is a new 2.4-liter diesel with a variable-geometry turbocharger. Output is 204 hp (150 kW), torque is 480 N·m (in some trims — 470 N·m). Peak torque is available from low revs, so the vehicle pulls away confidently, with a trailer and uphill alike.

The engine is paired with a new 8-speed automatic transmission with a Sport mode. No gasoline or hybrid versions have been announced at launch.

Super Select 4WD-II all-wheel drive and S-AWC

The main technical highlight of the Pajero is the Super Select 4WD-II drivetrain. It has four modes:

  • 2H — rear-wheel drive for the highway, the most economical option;
  • 4H — permanent all-wheel drive that can be used even on dry asphalt;
  • 4HLc — all-wheel drive with a locked center differential for mud, snow, and sand;
  • 4LLc — low-range gearing with lock for serious off-roading.

On top of that works the Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system, which distributes torque and brakes individual wheels. The driver selects one of seven drive modes: Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock.

To help spot obstacles, there is the 3D Multi Around Monitor surround-view system with a “see-through” view under the front — it shows what is directly under the bumper when the hood blocks the road ahead.

Interior, technology, and safety

The cabin is three-row with seven seats. The second row slides 150 mm, so space can be redistributed between third-row passengers and the luggage compartment. Climate control is three-zone.

  • 14.3-inch central display (12.3 inches in simpler versions);
  • Dynamic Sound Yamaha Ultimate audio system: 12 speakers and two amplifiers;
  • eight airbags, including Mitsubishi’s first central airbag between the front seats;
  • MI-PILOT highway driving assist, collision prevention system, emergency lane keeping, front cross-traffic alert.

Pajero or Pajero Sport: what is the difference

Pajero and Pajero Sport are different models, although both are body-on-frame and both are from Thailand. The Pajero Sport has always been the more affordable “relative” of the L200 pickup. The new Pajero is positioned higher: it is the brand’s flagship with a roomier cabin and the richest equipment.

When to expect it in Ukraine

Mitsubishi plans to start sales in Thailand first, and during the 2026 financial year — in Japan and Australia. From the 2027 financial year, the model will reach around 100 markets worldwide. Prices and dates for Ukraine and Europe have not yet been officially announced — as soon as they appear, we will update this article.

What to install on a Pajero right now

Accessories for the new generation are usually prepared by manufacturers a few months after sales start. But for owners of current Pajero models, our catalog already has everything needed for roads and off-road use:

We deliver via Nova Poshta across Ukraine; for orders from 15 000 ₴ we deliver free of charge with our own transport.

Yes. The Super Select 4WD-II transmission has a 4H mode with full-time 4WD, which can be used on any surface. For mud and snow, there is 4HLc with a center differential lock, and for serious off-road use — the low-range 4LLc.
Seven seats in three rows. The second row slides 150 mm to redistribute space between the third row and the cargo area.
There is still no official date for Ukraine. The model will first go on sale in Thailand, Japan, and Australia, and from the 2027 fiscal year — in about 100 countries worldwide.
Both models are body-on-frame, but the new Pajero is the brand’s flagship: larger, with seven seats and an S-AWC system on top of the Super Select 4WD-II drivetrain. The Pajero Sport is a more affordable body-on-frame SUV.
