The 2027 model-year Honda Civic has received the Honda S+ Shift system — a “virtual gearbox” with eight simulated gears, first introduced on the Prelude coupe. The e:HEV hybrid hardware is unchanged: a 2.0-liter gasoline engine, two electric motors, and 184 hp (181 bhp according to UK figures). What’s new is software control over revs, sound, and torque, which uses the steering-wheel paddles to recreate gear changes. In the UK and Europe, S+ Shift comes on the Sport and Advance trims; in the US, only on the range-topping Sport Touring Hybrid. The updated Civic e:HEV is already available to order in the UK, with prices starting from £34,325.

What Honda S+ Shift is and how the “virtual gearbox” works in the Civic
The Civic e:HEV hybrid doesn’t have a conventional gearbox: in everyday driving, the wheels are driven by an electric motor, while the 2.0-liter gasoline engine mostly works as a generator, so the transmission is effectively single-speed (e-CVT). Because of this, acceleration in classic Honda hybrids feels like an even “hum” without the jolts of gear changes. S+ Shift — an evolution of the Linear Shift Control system that already simulated steps under acceleration — makes the process feel like a quick automatic gearbox with eight gears.
The system synchronizes three parameters: engine speed, vehicle speed, and sound. It manages revs and torque during acceleration and braking, while Active Sound Control amplifies the engine note in the cabin in line with revs. On a “downshift,” the driver feels engine braking and a rev-matched blip, like in a manual car. New Zealand media уточнює, that the system takes into account throttle position, braking, speed, road gradient, and battery charge, and the “kick” effect during shifting is created by the traction electric motor.
When S+ Shift mode is enabled, the steering-wheel paddles shift virtual gears. When the mode is off, the same paddles, as before, adjust the strength of regenerative braking. In other words, the actual transmission remains the same — only the way the car responds to the driver and how it sounds changes.
What else changed in the 2027 Civic
In addition to S+ Shift, the European and UK Civic e:HEV lineup received a driver attention monitoring camera. It is mounted on the inside A-pillar of the windshield on all trims — Elegance, Sport, and Advance — is part of the Honda SENSING suite, and issues a warning if the driver becomes distracted from the road.
The Sport trim became more distinctive: red contrast stitching on the front seats, center armrest, door trim, and steering wheel; red accents on the dashboard; a gloss-black “shark fin” antenna; and a 12-speaker Bose audio system as standard. A new color, Meteoroid Gray Metallic, has been added — there are now five colors: Meteoroid Gray Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Crystal Black Pearl, Premium Crystal Red Metallic, and Seabed Blue Pearl.
In the US, the update is different: for the 2027 model year, a new regular (non-hybrid) Sport-L trim was added with a leather interior, heated and power-adjustable front seats, and dual-zone climate control, while S+ Shift is offered only on the top Sport Touring Hybrid. As a reminder, the updated performance-focused Civic Type R 2027 is a separate model that we covered in the article “Updated Honda Civic Type R 2027”; here, we’re talking about the regular hybrid Civic.
Civic e:HEV hybrid specifications

Which trims get S+ Shift in different markets
Honda is rolling the system out gradually, and trims vary by country:
- Japan — first, on the Civic RS e:HEV version: sales started in June 2026. Along with S+ Shift, this Civic received the Prelude’s push-button electronic selector, a flat-bottom steering wheel, metal paddles, and revised suspension tuning.
- US — only the Sport Touring Hybrid (sedan and hatchback); the 2027 model-year Civic is already heading to dealers.
- UK and Europe — standard on Sport and Advance; the base Elegance does not get S+ Shift. Honda has not said when UK deliveries of cars with the system will begin.
- New Zealand — the only e:HEV hatchback trim, which for the 2027 model year is called LX (instead of SR).
There is no information on official sales of the updated Civic in Ukraine. We covered the previous update stage of the 11th generation in the review Honda Civic Sedan 2024.
How much the updated Civic costs
In the UK, the updated Civic e:HEV has been available to order since October 15, 2026, with prices starting from £34,325 for the Elegance. For trims with S+ Shift, UK sources cite different amounts (Sport — from £34,530 or £35,945), so it’s worth checking against the Honda UK price list. In France, the Civic Sport costs €38,170.
In the US, the hybrid Civic Sport Touring Hybrid with S+ Shift starts from $33,990 for the sedan and from $35,190 for the hatchback including delivery to the dealer; the most affordable 2027 Civic is the LX sedan at $26,290 ($300 more than a year ago). In New Zealand, the Civic LX costs 57,900 New Zealand dollars — 1,100 less than the previous SR.

What accessories are available for the 11th-generation Civic
The 2027 facelift did not affect the body, so accessories for the Civic 2021+ fit the updated car as well. For the sedan, the catalog includes model-specific Honda Civic Sedan 2021+ floor mats: EVA mats in five colors, Premium and Deluxe textile mats, and trunk mats, as well as Carsuit rubber mats in three colors. For the sedan there are also Niken wind deflectors with chrome molding for all four doors. For the hatchback sold in Europe, there are no model-specific mats yet, but mud flaps are available — see the Honda Civic HB 2021+ tuning section. Before ordering, check the body type: sedan and hatchback have different trunk floor and door shapes, and accessories are not interchangeable between them.
