Dacia Hipster: micro EV around 11,000 € — will it go into production in 2027?

Dacia Hipster is a tiny four-seat electric car 3 metres long that Dacia unveiled as a concept in early October 2025. At the end of September 2026, Britain’s Autocar, citing a source close to the project, reported that Hipster is expected to go into production in 2027 as a “heavy quadricycle” in the L7e category, and would cost under £10,000 in the UK (other sources say around £9,500, which is roughly €11,000). Dacia has not officially confirmed a production version yet, so everything below about 2027 is press information, not a manufacturer statement.

What Dacia Hipster is and what was shown in October 2025

Hipster is a concept in which Dacia showed what the simplest and cheapest electric car for Europe could look like. The dimensions are official: length 3.00 m, width 1.55 m, height 1.53 m. Even so, the cabin has four proper seats, and the boot offers 70 L with the rear seats up and up to 500 L with them folded. According to Dacia, the car is 20% lighter than the current Dacia Spring.

The main idea is to “design to cost and weight”. The manufacturer aims to halve the car’s carbon footprint over its entire life cycle compared with the best modern electric cars. Hence the concept’s spartan equipment:

  • instead of door handles there are straps; the side windows slide aside; the window regulators are manual;
  • instead of infotainment there is a smartphone holder that also works as a digital key and as a screen, plus a portable Bluetooth speaker;
  • 11 YouClip mounting points for accessories in the cabin, a front bench-style seat, fabric upholstery;
  • a boxy body with vertical windows, a glazed roof section, a full-width split tailgate, and rear lights hidden behind the glass of that tailgate.

Dacia explains the logic with numbers: 94% of drivers in France travel less than 40 km a day, so for daily trips two charges a week would be enough. The photos in this article are concept renders, not a production car: Dacia has not yet shown what Hipster will look like on sale.

Will Dacia Hipster go into production in 2027

Dacia has not publicly announced a final decision. Here is what is known from verified sources:

  • October 2025 — the Hipster concept. There was no official price list at the time, and the press estimated the price at €11,000–€15,000.
  • February 2026 — according to electrive, citing the French press, a production decision was close, and manufacturing in China could start at the end of 2027. Dacia CEO Catherine Atdt said then: “We are very motivated, now we just have to press the start button,” and development after the decision, she said, would take 18 months.
  • Late September 2026 — Autocar (as relayed by electrive on 28 September and other outlets): Hipster will enter production in 2027, with a UK price under £10,000, i.e. about €11,000. The production version, according to these reports, will be shown next year. Autocar’s source is an anonymous person close to the project.
  • Dacia design director David Durand, quoted by the press, уточнює: the project still has to receive final approval from management.

Production, according to Autocar, is planned in China — at the eGT New Energy Automotive plant in the city of Shiyan, where the first-generation Spring was assembled. Earlier, the French press also mentioned a plant in Tangier (Morocco), but more recent reports point to China. The new-generation Spring, according to electrive, will be assembled in Slovenia, and Hipster is intended to sit a step below it.

What the production Hipster could be like: category, motor and battery

The most important point reported by the press is that the production Hipster would not be a regular M1 passenger car, but a heavy quadricycle in the L7e category. This category has strict limits: continuous power up to 15 kW, maximum speed 90 km/h, mass without the battery up to 450 kg. On the plus side, these vehicles are not subject to the EU’s special duties on electric cars from China — those apply only to the M1 category.

The final price, according to the press, will depend on the battery capacity and chemistry. So the “around €11,000” figure is a benchmark from the UK press for the base version, not an official Dacia price list.

What mats and accessories would suit such a microcar

Hipster has not been released yet, so there are no model-specific accessories for it for now. But in a small car with a 70 L boot, every centimetre of floor space matters, and dirt and water from shoes immediately end up on the carpet. For the initial period, universal mats will do: a 4-piece set with a raised edge holds snow and water, and a universal 900 × 500 mm boot mat made of thermoplastic elastomer is easy to trim to a small floor. To stop small items sliding around the boot, an EVA organiser bag is useful — light and rigid, it holds its shape and can be washed with water.

The most practical option for a car like this is EVA mats: they are light, do not absorb water, and do not smell. But they are sewn to patterns for a specific car, so it is best to choose them once the production model goes on sale. For now, Dacia’s budget line is being expanded by Dacia Striker, while Hipster remains the brand’s most interesting project for 2027.
