Honda Super-N: small electric Honda for Europe – a kei car with hot-hatch spirit

Honda Super-N is a compact electric hatchback based on Japan’s N-series kei cars, which has been on sale in the United Kingdom since summer 2026 starting at £18,995. This is the European name for the model sold in Japan as the Super-ONE: a 29.6 kWh battery, up to 206 km on the WLTP cycle, and a BOOST mode that raises output from 47 to 70 kW and enables a simulated seven-speed gearbox. The United Kingdom is, for now, the only European market: the car exists only with right-hand drive.

Where the Super-N came from

The car was first shown in July 2025 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed as a camouflaged Super EV Concept. In October of the same year at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, Honda presented an almost production-ready Super-ONE prototype and confirmed it would go into production. In Japan, the Super-ONE went on sale in May 2026 for 3,390,200 yen including tax. The UK version under the name Super-N became available to order on 22 June 2026, and deliveries to showrooms began in July.

For Honda, this is a notable step: the company has rolled back part of its ambitious EV projects (we wrote about the fate of the series 0 crossover in the article “Honda 0 SUV cancelled”), and the small Super-N is now the brand’s only electric car in the UK lineup. Its spiritual predecessor is the city Honda e, but the Super-N is technically simpler and noticeably cheaper.

Is it a real kei car

By platform—yes; by dimensions—no. The Super-ONE is based on the N-ONE e: kei car, with the same battery, but it received its own chassis, a wider track (1,345 mm, 10 mm more than the donor) and “inflated” arch extensions to cover wide tyres. Because of this, the body exceeded Japan’s kei-car limits (length up to 3.40 m, width up to 1.48 m), and formally it is already an ordinary small car.

The UK version, according to EV Database, is 3,599 mm long, 1,573 mm wide and 1,608 mm tall, with a 2,516 mm wheelbase. That puts it in the class where the Dacia Spring and Hyundai Inster live—exactly the models the UK press calls its main competitors.

What are the Honda Super-N’s specifications

Front-wheel drive: a compact e-Axle up front. In normal modes it delivers 47 kW (64 hp), and in BOOST mode—70 kW (95 hp). Acceleration to 100 km/h depends on this as well: 14.5 s in NORMAL and 10.0 s in BOOST.

The range is modest even for a city car: the Japanese version does 274 km on the WLTC cycle, while EV Database’s real-world estimate is about 185 km. So this is a car for the city and suburban trips, not for motorway driving. On AC, the Super-N charges at around 10–11 kW—different sources quote slightly different figures.

What makes it a hot hatch

Honda openly borrowed the styling from its own 1980s City Turbo II: wide track, arch extensions, big bumpers with air intakes, and a spoiler. But the main thing is in the tuning. There are five driving modes: ECON, CITY, NORMAL, SPORT and BOOST. In CITY mode, one-pedal driving works, and BOOST is activated by a separate button on the steering wheel.

In BOOST, besides the power increase, a simulated seven-speed gearbox with “shifts” is enabled, and the Active Sound Control system adds synthesized engine sound—according to Honda, it is a mix of the Integra Type R and City Turbo sound. The instrument graphics switch colour from blue to purple. For comparison, a true “hot” Honda with a petrol engine is the Civic Type R FL5; the Super-N plays the same game, but at city-street speeds.

What it’s like inside and how much it fits

The front seats are sporty, with side bolsters and blue inserts. The dashboard is horizontal, with blue ambient contour lighting and plenty of physical buttons. The Japanese version has a 9-inch Honda CONNECT screen with Google. Standard equipment includes a Bose audio system with eight speakers and a subwoofer in the boot, plus the Honda SENSING driver-assistance suite: automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with traffic-jam assist, lane keeping, automatic high-beam switching and parking sensors.

The key practical feature is the N-series signature Magic Seats: the rear-seat cushions flip up, and the backrests fold flat with the floor. That turns a 162 l boot into 967 l—quite a lot for a 3.6 m-long car. Because of the small base volume and light-coloured upholstery, rubber mats with raised edges and a boot mat are especially appropriate here: the selection is available in the universal car mats and EVA mats sections.

Where it’s sold and whether it will come to the EU

At launch in Europe, the Super-N is sold only in the United Kingdom. The reason is simple: Japan and the UK are left-hand-traffic markets, and there is no left-hand-drive version. For continental Europe, it would have to be developed, and Honda has not confirmed any such plans so far. German publications rate the chances of an EU launch as low. So the Super-N is unlikely to appear officially in Ukraine in the near future.

In the UK, the model arrived at a moment when the market is looking for inexpensive electric cars: a price under £20,000 makes the Super-N one of the country’s most affordable new EVs.
