Car Wheel Replacement: What Beginners Need to Know

A flat tire on the road — an unpleasant situation any driver can face. Knowing how to change a wheel yourself saves time, money, and nerves, especially if help is far away. For a beginner, it may seem difficult, but with proper preparation, the process takes only 15–20 minutes and requires no special skills. To make your car more functional and practical, we recommend using tuning accessories, a wide range of which can be found in our product catalog.
Necessary tools
There should always be a replacement kit in the trunk.
- Spare wheel (full-size or «space saver») — check its pressure in advance.
- Jack suitable for your car.
- Wheel wrench (often telescopic for better leverage).
- Gloves, wheel chocks, and a flashlight in case of night conditions.
Step-by-step wheel replacement guide
Act consistently and carefully.
- Pull over to the roadside, turn on the hazard lights, and place the warning triangle.
- Engage the handbrake and place chocks under the opposite wheels.
- Loosen the nuts on the damaged wheel (do not remove them completely).
- Use the jack to lift the car at the designated point (see the vehicle manual).
- Remove the wheel, install the spare, and tighten the nuts crosswise.
- Lower the car and tighten the nuts firmly.
After replacement, visit a tire service as soon as possible. Practice this skill in a calm environment — and you’ll feel confident in any road situation.
