BMW X5 G05: LCI-style facelift body kit – what to fit and what it costs

In 2023, the BMW X5 G05 went through an update (BMW calls it LCI — Life Cycle Impulse): slimmer headlights, a different grille, a new front bumper, and taillights with an X-shaped signature. Pre-facelift cars from 2018–2023 have not become outdated technically because of this, but visually the difference is noticeable right away. That is why one of the most common questions from G05 owners is whether it is possible to turn their X5 into an LCI, what will be needed for it, and how much it really costs.

In brief
- The key element of the LCI look is the headlights. They are 35 mm narrower in outline, so they can only be installed together with a new front bumper.
- The simplest step is the rear taillights: the rear end with X-shaped lights already reads as a facelift.
- The best value is a full kit: bumpers, side skirts, fender flare extensions, grille, headlights, and taillights as one set are cheaper than the same parts separately.
- You cannot do it without electrics: the new lighting requires coding and, depending on the car’s trim level, adapter wiring as well.
- Body parts arrive ready for painting — budget painting and installation separately.
What changed in the LCI: pre-facelift vs facelift
BMW unveiled the updated X5 and X6 in February 2023, and production of the facelifted X5 started in April 2023 at the Spartanburg plant (USA). Here is what changed on the exterior, according to the manufacturer’s press release.
| Element | G05 pre-facelift (2018–2023) | G05 LCI (from 2023) |
|---|---|---|
| Headlights | wider housings of the previous design | outline 35 mm narrower, arrow-shaped daytime running lights that also function as turn indicators |
| Kidney grille | kidneys without illumination | new surround; optional — illuminated Iconic Glow grille |
| Front bumper | previous shape of the air intakes | lower air intake with a horizontal insert and triangular openings at the edges, vertical air curtains |
| Side air vents | previous design | new element with a forward bend and horizontal slats |
| Rear taillights | L-shaped light signature | fiber-optic light guides forming an X-shaped signature |
| M Sport package | its own front and rear bumpers | new M front bumper, rear bumper with a dark insert, M Shadowline styling |
Inside, the LCI received the BMW Curved Display (12.3 + 14.9 inches) and BMW Operating System 8. This is different electronics, so we do not cover the interior in this article: the exterior facelift is a separate and entirely realistic project, and you will not be able to “transfer” the LCI multimedia into a pre-facelift car as a kit.
Three facelift scenarios
1. Rear taillights only
The minimal and cheapest step. Facelift-style taillights install in the factory locations; there is no need to change the bumper. The rear end with X-shaped graphics freshens up the car on its own, even though the front remains pre-facelift.
2. Front end: headlights + bumper + grille
It is the front that makes the X5 look “new.” But there are no half measures here: the narrower LCI headlights physically do not fit the old bumper, so вместе with them you need a front bumper for the new lighting and, ideally, a 2023+ grille. It is not for nothing that the listing for the facelift headlights explicitly says “bumper replacement required.”
3. Full facelift as a kit
Front and rear bumpers, side skirts, fender flare extensions, grille, exhaust tips, headlights, and taillights. The result is a cohesive look without “patches,” where the front is new and the rear is old. Kits come in two styles: M60i (restrained M Sport) and X5M F95 LCI (more aggressive, in an “X5M” look). The selection of ready-made solutions is in the facelift kits for BMW X5 G05 section.
How much it costs: prices from our catalog
Prices are taken from product pages in our catalog as of September 2026; check the current price and availability on the product page. All items below are manufactured by GBT.
| Item | What’s included | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Rear taillights (Europe, facelift for 2019–2023) | 4 pieces: 2 left + 2 right | 15 750 ₴ |
| Facelift front headlights | pair of headlights, bumper replacement required | 33 750 ₴ |
| Facelift front headlights Black Shadow Line | pair of headlights with darkened trim | 34 200 ₴ |
| M60i front bumper (2023+) | bumper | 23 400 ₴ |
| Rear bumper with M Sport diffuser | bumper | 13 500 ₴ |
| 1 Bar kidneys (2023+, gloss black) | kidney grille | 7 200 ₴ |
| M60i body kit with grille (2023+) | both bumpers, kidneys, side skirts, fender flare extensions (4 pcs), exhaust tips | 61 200 ₴ |
| X5 M60i facelift kit | everything from the previous row + facelift headlights and rear taillights | 94 500 ₴ |
| X5M F95 LCI facelift kit | X5M F95-style body kit (2023+), kidneys, side skirts, fender flare extensions, tips + headlights and taillights | 94 500 ₴ |
Simple arithmetic: M60i body kit (61 200 ₴) + headlights (33 750 ₴) + taillights (15 750 ₴) = 110 700 ₴. The full facelift kit with the same contents costs 94 500 ₴, i.e. 16 200 ₴ less. If you are planning to change both the front and the rear anyway, there is no point in piecing it together part by part. Individual bumpers, including for pre-facelift versions, are in the bumpers for BMW X5 G05 section.
Headlights, taillights, and electronics: what to check before buying
Body parts are mechanical: fit, paint, bolt on. Lighting is more complicated, because in the G05 the headlights and taillights are electronic units controlled by the car’s onboard network.
- Coding is mandatory. Facelift lighting has to be registered in the car’s electronics; otherwise you may get dashboard errors, incorrect turn signal operation, or animation issues. For original LCI taillights on pre-facelift G05s, retrofitters explicitly point out the need for protected coding.
- Adapter wiring may be required. The connectors and control logic differ in the LCI, so adapters are used for some cars. Whether you need one depends on the model year and which headlights your car has from the factory.
- Adaptive functions. If your car had adaptive headlights, уточнюйте which functions will be retained after the swap. Do not buy lighting “at random” — check compatibility by VIN with a manager.
- Sensors and cameras. If the car has parking sensors, a camera, or a radar in the bumper, make sure in advance that the new bumper has provisions and mounts for them.
Lighting options, including Black Shadow Line tinted headlights and laser lighting for 2023+ cars, are in the headlights for BMW X5 G05 section, and the rear ones are in the rear LED taillights section.
What work will be required
Only your workshop can quote the exact labor cost — it depends on the color, the condition of the body, and your region. But the list of work is always the same:
- Test fit without painting. First, parts are test-fitted “dry,” checking gaps and mounting points. Painting before test fitting is a common and expensive mistake.
- Painting to match the body color. Bumpers, side skirts, and extensions arrive ready for painting. Take the paint code from the vehicle data plate — the painter will match the shade more accurately.
- Installation. Removing the old bumpers, installing the new ones, transferring sensors, the grille, license plate lighting.
- Lighting installation and coding. Headlights, taillights, an adapter if needed, then coding with diagnostic equipment.
- Headlight alignment. After replacement, headlights must be adjusted so as not to dazzle oncoming traffic.
Who it makes sense for
A full kit facelift is justified if you plan to keep driving your G05 for a few more years, the body is in good condition, and you want the car to look current. Especially now: BMW has already unveiled the next generation X5 (G65), so the pre-facelift G05 starts to look dated against new releases faster visually than technically. If your goal is not looks but the character of the X5M, read when it makes sense to facelift a G05 into an X5M look, and when it is unnecessary expense. The full range for the model is in the BMW X5 G05 tuning section.
