How to turn on your car’s air conditioning correctly: step-by-step

Summer heat inside the cabin can turn a trip into a real challenge. A car air conditioner (or climate control) quickly saves the day, but it’s important to switch it on correctly — so cooling is effective, economical, and safe for your health and the engine. And to add more comfort and coziness to your car’s interior, you can use tuning accessories, a wide selection of which is available in our online store.
Step-by-step guide to the perfect climate
For the A/C to work efficiently, follow this routine:
- Ventilate. Before driving, open all windows for 1–2 minutes. This lets hot air escape naturally, reducing the load on the compressor.
- Start the engine. Don’t turn cooling on immediately after turning the key. Let the engine run for 30–60 seconds.
- Activate the system. Press the A/C (Air Conditioning) button and set the desired temperature. If there’s an AUTO button — press it, and the climate control will select the settings itself.
- Recirculation mode. Turn on interior air recirculation. This way the system won’t waste energy cooling hot outside air; it will only further cool the already chilled air in the cabin.
- Airflow direction. Aim the vents upward or to the sides, but never directly at yourself, to avoid catching a cold.
What should you avoid?
- Sudden temperature drop: Don’t set +16°C if it’s +30°C outside. The optimal difference is 5–8 degrees.
- Skipping service: Once a year, check the refrigerant level and the condition of the cabin filter. A dirty filter is the main cause of unpleasant smells and weak airflow.
Remember: 5 minutes before stopping, turn off the A/C and leave only the fan on. This helps dry out condensation and prevents bacteria from multiplying.
