Volkswagen officially unveiled the ID. Tiguan on October 9, 2026 — a mid-size electric crossover that replaces the ID.4 and ID.5. It gets the MEB+ platform, 58 or 77 kWh batteries, power from 190 to 299 hp, and a range of up to 600 km (WLTP). Pre-orders in Germany and many European countries open on October 13, with prices starting at €42,695; sales begin in early 2027.

What Volkswagen showed on October 9
ID. Tiguan is the successor to the ID.4 and ID.5, of which more than 950,000 have been produced since 2021. Volkswagen took the name from its bestseller: the regular Tiguan with petrol, diesel, and hybrid versions will continue to be produced in parallel. Volkswagen brand CEO Thomas Schäfer reminded that Tiguan is the brand’s best-selling model worldwide.
The crossover sits on the updated MEB+ platform, and it will be built in Emden, Germany. The design follows Volkswagen’s new “Pure Positive” styling: according to the manufacturer, these are crisp lines and tightly “stretched” surfaces. Visually, the car has become more like a classic SUV than the streamlined ID.4. Regular door handles you grab with your hand have returned instead of flush ones. The illustrations for this article were generated based on the official description and are not factory photos from Volkswagen.
Even on the eve of the premiere, we collected everything that was known from prototypes in the piece “Volkswagen ID. Tiguan: what’s known ahead of the premiere”. Now — the official figures.
Which versions, batteries, and range
At launch there are three versions: two rear-wheel-drive and the all-wheel-drive 4MOTION. According to electrive, the smaller battery is lithium iron phosphate (LFP), and the larger one is nickel manganese cobalt (NMC). Volkswagen calls the range “up to 600 km” (WLTP); publications уточнюють, що це попередні дані до завершення сертифікації.
| Parameter | Rear-wheel drive, base | Rear-wheel drive, more powerful | 4MOTION (all-wheel drive) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Power | 140 kW (190 hp) | 210 kW (286 hp) | 220 kW (299 hp) |
| Battery (net) | 58 kWh, LFP | 77 kWh, NMC | 77 kWh, NMC |
| WLTP range | up to 450 km | up to 600 km | up to 560 km |
| 0–100 km/h | 8.5 s | 6.6 s | 6.3 s |
| Top speed | 160 km/h | 180 km/h | 180 km/h |
| Braked trailer | up to 1,800 kg | up to 2,000 kg | up to 2,000 kg |
Power figures, batteries, and towing are from Volkswagen’s press release. Range by version, acceleration, and top speed are reported by electrive.
How fast the ID. Tiguan charges
From a household outlet or wallbox AC charger, both batteries take up to 11 kW. At a DC fast charger, the version with the 58 kWh battery charges at up to 105 kW, and the one with the 77 kWh battery at up to 165 kW. Going from 10 to 80% takes about 26 and 29 minutes respectively (electrive data).
The crossover can supply power externally: there is a PowerSocket adapter that can run an electric grill or charge an e-bike. According to electrive, Plug & Charge, smart charging, and V2L, V2H, and V2G functions are also claimed — i.e., powering devices, a home, and the grid from the car’s battery.
Dimensions, trunk and towing
According to electrive, the ID. Tiguan is 4.62 m long, 1.86 m wide, 1.62 m high, with a 2.77 m wheelbase. The cabin is five-seater. Officially, the trunk holds up to 534 L, and there is an additional small 32 L compartment under the hood — convenient for storing the charging cable.
Towing is a strong point of the newcomer: up to 1,800 kg with the 58 kWh battery and up to 2,000 kg with the 77 kWh. For an EV in this class, that is a lot, so the ID. Tiguan will handle a trailer or a small boat. But with a trailer, range drops noticeably — it is worth factoring that into trip planning.
What changed inside
The most noticeable change is that Volkswagen has brought back physical controls. Below the central screen there is a row of climate buttons; on the center console — a volume knob; on the steering wheel — real buttons instead of the touch pads used in the ID.4.
- Digital instrument cluster in front of the driver — 10 inches.
- Central infotainment screen — 15 inches.
- Separate passenger display — 12 inches, with a privacy mode: the driver cannot see it, and audio can be routed to Bluetooth headphones.
- Two Qi2 wireless chargers with magnetic smartphone positioning.
- Options: front seats with power adjustment, massage, memory and ventilation, a 480 W Harman Kardon audio system, panoramic roof.
There is also a nostalgic detail: the cluster can be switched to a “Golf IV-style” look, and in the infotainment you can choose a “virtual garage” with six models — Golf I, Golf II Country, Golf IV, Tiguan I, Race Touareg, and Beetle. Among the assistants is Connected Travel Assist, which changes lanes by itself on the motorway and stops at red lights. One-pedal driving is standard. Trims are Trend, Life, Style, and R-Line.
Which rumors were confirmed
Most of the figures that publications shared after driving prototypes matched the official ones. This is a rare case where the rumors turned out to be accurate.
| What was discussed before the premiere | Rumors (before 9.10) | Official / as of the premiere |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | MEB+ | MEB+, confirmed |
| Batteries | 58 kWh LFP and 77 kWh NMC | 58 and 77 kWh, confirmed |
| Power | 190 / 286 / 299 hp | 190 / 286 / 299 hp, confirmed |
| Range | 450 / 600 / 560 km | up to 600 km (WLTP, preliminary) |
| Screens | 10 and 15 inches | 10 and 15 inches plus a 12-inch passenger screen |
| Price | around €43,000 (estimate) | from €42,695 |
What was new were the passenger display, towing up to 2 tons, and a 32 L front trunk — they were not mentioned before the premiere.
When the ID. Tiguan goes on sale and how much it costs
Pre-sales start on October 13, 2026 in Germany and many other European countries, with the first cars arriving in early 2027. The starting price in Germany is €42,695; for comparison, the ID.4, according to electrive, currently starts at €40,580. For North America, Volkswagen promises to announce timing and prices later. The manufacturer has not reported official sales in Ukraine.
Alongside it in showrooms will remain the petrol and hybrid third-generation Tiguan — see our Tiguan III review. VW’s electric lineup in more compact classes is represented by the ID. Polo.
Are there accessories for the ID. Tiguan
There are no model-specific accessories for the ID. Tiguan yet: the body is new, and patterns for it appear after sales begin. So the reference point is what already exists for the classic Tiguan 2023+, and universal solutions. Direct compatibility with the ID. Tiguan is not confirmed, so before buying model-specific items it is worth waiting for the production car.
For the classic Tiguan there are window deflectors, which let you ventilate the cabin in the rain, and interior and trunk mats — rubber, EVA, and textile. In an electric car, mats with raised edges are especially relevant: they keep snow and road chemicals away from the floor, under which the battery sits. For the roof — roof rails, but on an EV it is better to fit them and a roof box for a specific trip: aerodynamics directly affects range.
