Volkswagen ID. Tiguan: what we know ahead of the debut — successor to ID.4 and ID.5

Volkswagen ID. Tiguan is a fully electric crossover that will replace the ID.4 and ID.5: the world premiere is scheduled for early October 2026 (according to electrive and TVBS — October 9), and the model will arrive in Europe in early 2027. Officially, VW has so far shown only camouflaged prototypes and confirmed the new name and an “all-new design”; the technical details circulating online are rumors and unofficial figures from publications.

What Volkswagen has already confirmed
In a press release dated September 28, 2026, Volkswagen named the new model ID. Tiguan and stated directly that it is coming as a replacement for the ID.4 and ID.5. This is already the third name from the ICE lineup that the brand is bringing into the electric era after ID. Polo and ID. Cross.
- The design is new from the ground up: according to VW, the crossover will have the visual presence of a vehicle from a higher segment.
- ID. Tiguan will be electric only. The regular Tiguan with gasoline, diesel, and hybrid (plug-in) versions will continue to be produced in parallel.
- Prototypes are still running in camouflage. There are no technical specifications in the release — power output, batteries, range, dimensions, price.
- For scale: Tiguan is Volkswagen’s most popular model worldwide, with more than 8.3 million vehicles produced; the ID.4 and ID.5 have sold more than 950 thousand units since 2021.
- North America is confirmed, but without a date.
When the ID. Tiguan premiere and sales start
VW’s official wording is “world premiere in early October 2026,” without a day. A specific date, October 9, is cited by electrive (since August) and Taiwan’s TVBS, which refers to a Volkswagen teaser video. As of October 8, the official unveiling had not yet taken place, so everything below is “what is known on the eve of the premiere.”
Sales in Europe will start in early 2027. The Ukrainian market has not been officially announced; VW has not named prices for Europe either. Some publications point to a starting price of around €43,000 — this is journalists’ estimate, not a statement from the manufacturer.
According to electrive, the new model will be assembled exclusively in Emden (Lower Saxony), where IG Metall expects production through the end of 2031, while ID.4 production in Zwickau is being phased out. This is the publication’s report, not a separate official confirmation.
Platform, batteries, and range: what the rumors say
Publications (including Italy’s Il Sole 24 Ore after a ride in a prototype, as well as Germany’s elektroquatsch and Autonotizen) write that the ID. Tiguan will be built on the updated MEB+ platform, with rear-wheel drive in the base versions and 4Motion all-wheel drive in the top one. The platform and all the figures below are not officially confirmed and may change before the premiere.
| Version (rumored) | Battery | Power | Range | 0–100 km/h | DC charging (peak) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rear-wheel drive, base | 58 kWh, LFP | 140 kW (190 hp) | up to 450 km WLTP | 8.5 s | up to 105 kW |
| Rear-wheel drive, more powerful | 77 kWh, NMC | 210 kW (286 hp) | up to 600 km | 6.6 s | up to 165 kW |
| 4Motion, all-wheel drive | 77 kWh, NMC | 220 kW (299 hp) | up to 560 km | 6.3 s | not stated |
For 10–80% charging, the same sources cite a benchmark of about 26 minutes for the smaller battery and about 29 minutes for the larger one. The range measurement standard (WLTP) is specified only for the base version; in other cases the sources do not clarify, so until the presentation these are reference figures.
What the ID. Tiguan will look like
Based on photos and videos of camouflaged prototypes, publications describe a front end that is more angular than the ID.4’s, with a continuous lighting signature, a pronounced shoulder line, aerodynamic wheels, and a rear end with a full-width LED strip. Flush door handles will be replaced with regular pull-type handles. electrive calls the overall impression “a mix of the ID.4 and the ICE Tiguan,” while TVBS describes a more “boxy” body with lighting in the style of the ID. Cross.

What is known about the interior and dimensions
The length is said to be around 4.6 m — about 10 cm more than the ID.4 (4.53 m). The prototype interiors were concealed, but from the teaser and test rides it is known that physical buttons are returning on the steering wheel and below the screen instead of touch sliders, there will be a larger driver display and a larger central screen (Il Sole writes about 10 and 15 inches), and according to Autonotizen there will also be an augmented-reality head-up display. VW has not published official dimensions, trunk volume, or wheelbase.
For comparison with its “gasoline” sibling — our review of Tiguan III generation: it is next to it in showrooms that the electric ID. Tiguan will be displayed.
Which accessories you will need right now
There are no model-specific accessories for the ID. Tiguan yet: the car has not been officially unveiled, and patterns for the production body appear after sales start. Therefore, below is what is available for the current Tiguan, and universal solutions; before buying for an electric crossover, it is worth waiting for fitment confirmation for the new model.
An electric vehicle is sensitive to aerodynamics: roof rails and a roof box noticeably increase consumption, so they are installed for a specific trip rather than permanently. In winter and spring, window deflectors are useful, allowing you to ventilate the cabin in the rain, and floor mats with raised edges — they keep snow, water, and road chemicals contained on the floor.
