Cupra Raval: small electric Cupra hot hatch – specs, batteries and prices

Cupra has unveiled the production Raval — the brand’s first city electric car and the most affordable model in its line-up. The world premiere took place on April 9, 2026, and production started in June at the plant in Martorell near Barcelona. The 4-metre-long hatchback gets front-wheel drive on the MEB+ platform, four power levels from 85 to 166 kW, two batteries, and a 441-litre boot. The most interesting version is the Raval VZ with 226 hp, an electronic differential lock and 0–100 km/h in 6.8 s — a true electric hot hatch. Here’s what we know about the newcomer: specs, equipment, prices, and how it differs from its group “relatives”.

From the UrbanRebel concept to the production Raval
Cupra first presented the idea of a small “hot” electric car with the UrbanRebel concept at the Munich Motor Show in 2021. Later, the brand gave the production model the name Raval — after El Raval, Barcelona’s boldest and most creative district. In September 2025 the car was shown in camouflage, and in November Cupra let journalists drive pre-production examples.
Raval is the first model of the Electric Urban Car family: four compact electric cars from the Volkswagen Group on a shared front-wheel-drive platform. It also includes Volkswagen ID. Polo, ID. Cross and Skoda Epiq. Cupra’s role in this quartet is the most emotional and sporty version. Raval became the first EV that was fully developed and is built in Martorell: around 160 thousand square metres of the plant were converted for it and a thousand new robots were installed, while the batteries are assembled at a neighbouring factory and fed to the line via a covered bridge 600 metres long.
MEB+ platform and four versions
Raval is based on the updated front-wheel-drive MEB+ platform — unlike the rear-wheel-drive Cupra Born. Under the bonnet is the new APP 290 electric motor, and the PowerCo battery is built using cell-to-pack technology: the cells are placed directly into the casing without intermediate modules. According to Cupra, this reduces weight and delivers about 10% higher energy density.
The line-up offers four motor-and-battery combinations:
| Version | Power | Battery (net) | Range (WLTP, preliminary) | DC fast charging |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Raval | 85 kW / 116 hp | 37 kWh, LFP | about 300 km | up to 50 kW |
| Raval Plus | 99 kW / 135 hp | 37 kWh, LFP | up to 300 km | up to 88 kW, 10–80% in 23 min |
| Endurance | 155 kW / 211 hp | 52 kWh, NMC | about 450 km | up to 105 kW, 10–80% in 24 min |
| VZ | 166 kW / 226 hp | 52 kWh, NMC | about 400 km | up to 105 kW, 10–80% in 24 min |
The chassis is sporty across all versions: the body sits 15 mm lower than the platform allows, the track is 10 mm wider, and the steering has a progressive ratio. DCC adaptive dampers offer up to 15 adjustment levels — from urban comfort to a firm CUPRA mode. Raval is the first Cupra with a “one box” braking system, where the brake booster and the ESC module are combined into a single unit: this provides a more precise pedal feel and better blends pad friction with recuperation. The brakes are discs on both axles. There is a one-pedal driving mode in which the car slows via recuperation all the way to a complete stop, and an E-Launch function — a “start ceremony” with light, animation and sound before accelerating from standstill.
Batteries, range and charging
The entry-level Raval and Raval Plus get a 37 kWh net lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. This chemistry is cheaper and easily tolerates daily charging to 100%, but it loses capacity more noticeably in freezing temperatures. The higher-spec Endurance and VZ have a 52 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery — it has higher energy density and supports DC fast charging up to 105 kW.
From a home or public AC station, all versions charge at 11 kW. On DC, the base model accepts up to 50 kW, while the Raval Plus takes up to 88 kW. Via Plug & Charge, the car authorises itself at compatible stations in 28 European countries without cards or apps, and the V2L function allows you to power a laptop from the car or charge an e-bike.
Cupra labels all range figures as preliminary: at the time of the premiere the model was still undergoing homologation, and final values depend on wheel size and options. Real-world mileage, as with any EV, will be lower in winter than the official figures.
Raval VZ: what makes it a hot hatch
VZ (from the Spanish veloz — “fast”) is the top of the range. The motor delivers 166 kW (226 hp) and 290 N·m, 0–100 km/h takes 6.8 s, and top speed is 175 km/h. To help the front wheels handle that torque, the VZ gets several exclusive solutions:
- electronic differential lock — constantly monitors grip and redistributes torque between the front wheels, especially in tight corners;
- sport steering knuckles with more negative camber and a higher roll centre — for a sharper front-axle response;
- DCC Sport suspension, 5% stiffer than the regular DCC;
- 19-inch wheels with wider 235 mm tyres and a mode for fully disabling ESC;
- bucket seats with Dinamica upholstery.
Early press tests back up the claim: Britain’s Auto Express called the Raval VZ the best-handling small car on the market and praised the composed body control, although in the city the suspension can feel bouncy at times. It is interesting to compare it with the more powerful but rear-wheel-drive Cupra Born VZ with 326 hp for exactly this reason: Raval focuses on lightness and the front axle rather than record power.
Design, dimensions and boot
At the front, the Raval is recognisable by its “shark nose” and sharp lines, Matrix LED headlights with a welcome animation, and flush door handles that pop out and illuminate when the owner approaches. At the rear there is a pronounced diffuser, a full-width light bar with volumetric 3D effects, and an illuminated frameless logo; the reversing lights and rear fog light have been moved down into the bumper reflectors. An illuminated front logo will appear later as part of an expanded Matrix LED package.
Aerodynamics received special attention: active grille shutters, air curtains in the front bumper, aerodynamic wheels, a spoiler and flush door handles have given the Raval the lowest aerodynamic drag among all Cupra models.
Dimensions: length 4,046 mm, width 1,784 mm, height 1,518 mm, wheelbase 2,600 mm. The boot holds 441 litres and has a double floor — the large volume was achieved because there are no high-voltage components in the rear part of the body. Towing capacity is up to 1,200 kg. Wheels are 17, 18 or 19 inches, with eight designs in total. There are seven colours, including the pearlescent Plasma that shifts from blue to pink-red depending on the light (a first for Cupra), and the matte Manganese and Century Bronze; the roof can be ordered in contrasting grey or black.
Interior, multimedia and safety
The driver is greeted by a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch multimedia screen. Raval is the first Cupra with an Android-based system: there is an app store, Spotify, and even YouTube while parked. Physical buttons have returned to the steering wheel, with mode selectors and paddles for adjusting recuperation. The centre console is “floating”, with extra storage space underneath. Wireless phone charging is 15 W, and the front and rear USB-C ports deliver up to 90 W in total.
Trim comes in four options: from sport seats with fabric made from 100% recycled material to buckets with Dinamica or vegan leather. In the top AHEAD package there are CUP Bucket seats with upholstery fully knitted using 3D technology, and 3D-printed dashboard elements. The optional Sennheiser audio system has 12 speakers and 475 W, and a projector in the dashboard casts animated patterns onto the door panels.
Standard equipment includes seven airbags, including a central one between the front seats, and an in-cabin camera that monitors driver fatigue; updated Travel Assist and Emergency Assist are also available. Under the new, stricter Euro NCAP 2026 protocol, Raval received four stars in base specification and five with the Safety Pack (predictive adaptive cruise control and front cross-traffic alert). Results with the pack: safe driving 72%, crash avoidance 77%, collision protection 91%, post-crash safety 95%. Plus, Endurance and VZ versions receive five stars as standard.
Launch versions and prices
Officially, Cupra quotes the starting price of the base Raval at around €26,000, and the Raval Plus at around €29,000. Three special versions were prepared for the sales launch:
- Dynamic (155 kW, 52 kWh, about 450 km) — LED headlights, heated seats and steering wheel, keyless entry, electric adjustment of bucket seats with memory, rear-view camera;
- Dynamic Plus — adds Matrix LED headlights, navigation, Sennheiser audio, 360-degree cameras, Travel Assist and an intelligent parking assistant;
- VZ Extreme (166 kW, about 400 km) — panoramic roof, 19-inch wheels in Sulfur colour, CUP Bucket seats and all VZ sports equipment.
In Germany, according to electrive, the Raval Plus costs €29,850, Dynamic — €37,250, Dynamic Plus — €41,605, VZ Extreme — €46,525; the base version for €25,950 goes on sale in autumn. There is no official data on Cupra Raval sales in Ukraine yet.
Floor mats for Cupra Raval
There are no model-specific mats for the Raval yet: patterns for a new model do not appear immediately after sales begin, and mats from the Born or Formentor will not fit — the floor is different. For the first season, a practical option is the Stingray 3D universal mats or rubber mats with a high rim: they retain meltwater, snow and salt, which in winter are especially harmful to carpet. Be sure to secure a universal driver’s mat and check that the pedals move freely; place it instead of the factory textile mat, not on top of it. For the 441-litre boot, a universal polyurethane mat selected by measurements will work. More options are in the universal mats section, and accessories for other models of the brand are in the Cupra tuning catalogue.
