What the Deepal S05 is and how it differs from the S07
Deepal is Changan’s electric sub-brand. In China, the S05 has been on sale since October 2024, and in Europe it was introduced as the second model after the larger Deepal S07 crossover. The design was developed at Changan’s centre in Turin, and the chassis was tuned by British engineers from the research centre in Birmingham. For the UK, vehicles are supplied from the plant in Rayong (Thailand).
The S05 is smaller and cheaper than the S07, but it does not lag behind in range. A comparison of the European versions based on Changan Europe data (S07 from their press release ahead of IAA 2025):
| Parameter | Deepal S05 (RWD) | Deepal S07 |
|---|---|---|
| Length × width × height, mm | 4 598 × 1 900 × 1 600 | 4 750 × 1 930 × 1 625 |
| Battery | 68.8 kWh, LFP | 79.97 kWh |
| Power | 200 kW (268 hp) | 217 hp |
| WLTP range | up to 485 km | up to 475 km |

What powertrains and range the Deepal S05 has in Europe
In Europe, two configurations are offered. The base one is rear-wheel drive: a permanent-magnet synchronous motor rated at 200 kW (268 hp) and 290 N·m. The all-wheel-drive version adds a front asynchronous motor rated at 120 kW and 212 N·m: a total of 320 kW (about 429 hp) and 502 N·m. The battery is the same in both — 68.8 kWh using CATL lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells.
| Parameter | RWD (Pro, Max) | AWD Max |
|---|---|---|
| Power / torque | 200 kW (268 hp) / 290 N·m | 320 kW (≈429 hp) / 502 N·m |
| 0–100 km/h | 7.5 s | 5.5 s |
| Top speed | 180 km/h | 180 km/h |
| WLTP range | up to 485 km | up to 445 km |
| WLTP consumption | 15.9 kWh/100 km | 17.5 kWh/100 km |
| Curb weight | 1,940 kg | 2,040 kg |
| Towing | up to 1,600 kg | up to 1,600 kg |
In the UK, the same figures are given in miles: up to 303 miles (about 488 km) for the RWD and 278 miles (about 447 km) for the AWD. The base trim in Germany is the RWD Pro on 18-inch wheels; Max versions get 20-inch wheels.
How fast the battery charges
On AC, the S05 accepts up to 11 kW. At a fast charger, peak power is 200 kW, but it is available only at the start of charging, at 5–10% state of charge; in the 10–80% range, the average power according to the manufacturer is 168 kW. Times from the model page on the Changan Europe website: 10–80% in 23 minutes, 5–80% in 26 minutes, 30–80% in 15 minutes. The German outlet electrive.net notes that the “15 minutes” is measured from 30%, while most manufacturers count from 10%, so 23 minutes is a fairer comparison with competitors.
Two more practical points: the lineup includes a V2L function — powering external devices up to 6 kW — and a heat pump plus battery heating are standard equipment, which matters for LFP cells in winter.
What the Deepal S05 cabin and trunk are like
Wheelbase is 2,880 mm. The trunk holds 492 l, and with the rear seat folded — 1,250 l. Under the hood there is also a front trunk (“frunk”) of 159 l (152 l on AWD). The drag coefficient is 0.25.
The interior is minimalist. There is no classic instrument cluster: speed is shown in the upper-left corner of the 15.4-inch touchscreen, which tilts 15° toward the driver. There is an augmented-reality head-up display for navigation, two wireless phone charging pads, faux-leather upholstery, and in the UK version also front-seat heating and ventilation, a passenger seat with an almost flat recline, a 14-speaker audio system, and 360-degree cameras. The panoramic roof in Germany is available only on Max versions; in the UK it costs £1,000 as an option.
Reviewers’ driving impressions vary. Germany’s electrive.net noted a well-controlled suspension, good sound insulation in the city, and light steering with good feedback. The UK’s The Car Expert called the ride soft, but the steering distant from the road, and the controls overly dependent on the screen.
Is there lidar and how is safety
There is no lidar in the European Deepal S05. The equipment includes 17 driver-assistance systems that provide Level 2 autonomy (L2), according to the manufacturer; they use cameras, radars, and ultrasonic sensors. Lidar is found only on the Chinese model: the updated S05 (debut on 6 August 2026) is equipped with a 128-channel Hesai lidar on top versions of two lines, 520 and 620. In lidar versions there are 27 sensors in total; for the entire updated S05 lineup in China, prices range from 119,900 to 151,900 yuan. The range there is stated under the Chinese CLTC cycle (520 and 620 km) and is not comparable with the European WLTP.
According to Euro NCAP 2025 results, the S05 received five stars: adult protection — 94%, child protection — 87%, vulnerable road users — 78%, safety assist — 76%. Euro NCAP separately noted that the driver monitoring system does not meet its requirements.
How much the Deepal S05 costs and where it is sold
In Germany, prices are as follows: RWD Pro — €38,990, RWD Max — €41,990, AWD Max — €44,990. In the UK, orders opened on 1 March 2026: RWD costs £37,990, AWD — £39,990, with a single trim. Warranty in Germany is 7 years or 160,000 km for the car and 8 years or 200,000 km for the battery; in the UK — 7 years or 100,000 miles and 8 years or 124,000 miles respectively. Changan named Norway, Denmark, Germany, the UK, and the Netherlands as the first markets; later, Changan also entered the Spanish market, where the S05 and S07 became its first electric models.
A hybrid version for the S05 has also been announced: according to AUTOHAUS from April 2026, it is a series hybrid with a 1.5 l petrol engine rated at 63 kW, a 172 kW electric motor (system power 190 kW), an 18.4 kWh battery, and an electric-only range of up to 100 km. Dates and prices for it differ across reports, so check them with official dealers.
In Ukraine, such cars are usually brought in by independent importers from China, so specifications may differ from European ones: a different battery (56.12 or 68.82 kWh), CLTC range figures, and on top versions also lidar. Before buying, it is worth checking which exact modification you are looking at.
Which floor mats and wind deflectors to choose for the Deepal S05
There are no model-specific accessories for the S05 in the catalogue yet, and the floor mats for Changan section includes options for other models of the brand. For an EV, floor mats matter more than it seems: the traction battery sits under the cabin floor, and a wet mat with winter salt harms both the upholstery and the wiring. For the time being, the most practical solution is universal: Stingray Premium with a high edge or Polytep rubber mats with an edge, which hold meltwater. Before buying, check the dimensions against your cabin floor. For the 492 l trunk, a universal 900 × 1000 mm mat will work: you can lay it on the floor and trim it to shape.
Window deflectors are a model-specific product; they are made to the profile of specific doors, so an “almost fitting” visor from another crossover either will not sit tight or will interfere with the glass. For the S05, it is best to look for them separately in the window deflectors section, and about the difference between model-specific and universal ones read in the article “Model-specific or universal window deflectors”.
