Jaguar Type 01: first electric Jaguar of a new era, unveiled in New York

Jaguar Type 01 is the first production Jaguar of the brand’s “new era”: a four-door electric grand tourer with 1,030 hp, unveiled to the world on 6 October 2026 in New York. It has three electric motors, a 118 kWh battery and a range of up to 720 km according to the manufacturer’s preliminary WLTP estimate. UK price starts from £130,000; orders will open in early 2027, and customers will receive the first cars in the second half of 2027.

Where and how the Jaguar Type 01 was unveiled

The world premiere took place on 6 October 2026 in New York. Instead of a classic motor show, Jaguar staged an urban campaign: first the car appeared on digital screens in Times Square, in the DUMBO and Lower East Side neighborhoods, and then the Type 01 arrived at a private party at the STORIED venue in West Chelsea. Behind the wheel was António Félix da Costa, a driver for the Jaguar TCS Racing team competing in Formula E. That same evening, the company named actress Florence Pugh as the first ambassador of the refreshed brand.

For Jaguar, this is the most important event in a decade: the press release itself calls the premiere the brand’s biggest moment since 1935, when the Jaguar name first appeared. Jaguar managing director Rawdon Glover said the Type 01 “embodies the essence of Jaguar in a luxury grand tourer for a new era” and will become the foundation of the entire brand.

What the name Type 01 means and what Type 00 has to do with it

Jaguar explains the name itself: “Type” is a reference to legendary predecessors such as the E-type, “0” stands for zero tailpipe emissions, and “1” is the first model of the new generation.

The prototype appeared earlier. In December 2024, alongside the brand’s rebranding, Jaguar showed the Type 00 concept at Miami Art Week—a two-door coupe with a long hood, no rear window, and 23-inch wheels. The concept sparked loud debate, but the company did not deviate from its course: the production Type 01 retained the proportions and character of the Type 00, but gained four doors and four full-size seats.

What motors, battery and range the Type 01 has

The Type 01 is the first production model on the new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA) platform, for which the company has filed more than 360 patent applications. It is a fully electric car with an 850-volt architecture and three electric motors: according to the press, one is at the front and two at the rear. Jaguar has named its torque vectoring system Intelligent Torque Vectoring.

The range figures are Jaguar’s calculations prior to certification, so the final values may differ slightly. According to electrive’s estimate, energy consumption will be 16–17 kWh per 100 km. The driver can switch between two dynamic characters of the car; Jaguar has not yet explained in detail how they differ.

What the Type 01 looks like and its dimensions

The silhouette features a long hood, a low roofline, a short front overhang and an extended rear overhang. Designers call the Type 01 the most aerodynamic road-going Jaguar and draw a lineage to the E-type and XJS. Aerodynamics are supported by active vanes (Active Vanes) and a three-position deployable spoiler. The wheels are 23 inches, and there is a metal plaque with a leaping jaguar figure on the front fender.

There are no official dimensions in the press release, but according to electrive and Auto Express, the Type 01 is about 5.24 m long, with a 3.20 m wheelbase, a height of about 1.40 m and a width of about 2 m. In other words, it is a large car: in length it is comparable to the Rolls-Royce Spectre, as Carwow noted.

Inside: four individual seats and a 24-inch screen

The cabin is divided by a central “spine” into four individual seats—two in front and two in the rear—without a classic rear bench. Along the spine, anodized aluminum trims in a brass finish run on both sides. In front of the driver is a seamless 24-inch OLED display under a single piece of glass, and in the center is a small 7-inch touchscreen resembling a smartphone.

Jaguar separately highlights the Jaguar Immersive Sound audio system: seats with Sensory Audio vibration speakers and a full-width soundbar, which the company calls the world’s first solution for a car. The manufacturer has not yet disclosed trunk volume.

How much the Type 01 costs and when sales begin

The official starting price in the UK is from £130,000. Before the premiere, the press cited lower figures: Carwow, for example, expected around £120,000, so it’s best to rely on the official number. For Germany, electrive cites a starting price of about €165,000.

Jaguar will open orders in early 2027, and customers will receive the first cars in the second half of 2027. The Type 01 is developed and built in the UK—according to the press, at JLR’s Solihull plant, where the F-Pace was produced until December 2025. Jaguar has not yet announced anything about official sales in Ukraine.

What’s currently in the catalog for Jaguar

There are no model-specific accessories for the Type 01 yet, and there won’t be until sales begin: mats, trim pieces and other parts are made based on the dimensions of real production cars. Jaguar’s previous electric model, the I-Pace crossover, has been on the roads for a long time, and there are model-specific floor mats for Jaguar I-Pace—EVA, textile and polyurethane 3D, as well as trunk mats.
