Honda 0 SUV canceled: what happened to the electric crossover and which 0 Series model goes first into production

There will be no production Honda 0 SUV: on March 12, 2026, Honda officially canceled the development and market launch of the 0 SUV electric crossover along with the 0 Saloon sedan and the Acura RSX — just a few months before production was due to start in Ohio (USA). The first production model of the new Honda 0 series will be the smaller Honda 0 α (Alpha) crossover: its road tests in India began on March 16, 2026, and sales in India and Japan are planned for 2027. We explain what the 0 SUV was supposed to be, why Honda abandoned it, and what it means for owners of the brand’s electric vehicles.

What the Honda 0 series is and where the 0 SUV came from
Honda first unveiled the Honda 0 series on January 10, 2024 at CES in Las Vegas with two concepts — the Saloon sedan and the Space-Hub minivan. At the same time, Honda introduced a new “H” logo intended only for next-generation electric vehicles and outlined its “Thin, Light, and Wise” development approach. The idea is to move away from the image of an EV as a heavy, bulky machine: a thin platform, lightweight materials, and software that continues to evolve after purchase.
Among the goals Honda named for models in the second half of the 2020s were fast charging from 15 to 80% in about 10–15 minutes and battery capacity (driving range) loss of no more than 10% after 10 years of use. Sales of the series were to start in 2026, beginning with North America.
A year later, in January 2025 at CES, Honda showed prototypes of the Honda 0 Saloon and Honda 0 SUV. The crossover grew out of the Space-Hub concept: a mid-size electric vehicle with a spacious cabin, wide visibility, and flexible interior space.
What the production Honda 0 SUV was supposed to be like
According to the plan announced at CES 2025, the 0 SUV was to become the first model in the series: the production version was to be launched in the North American market in the first half of 2026, and then in other markets. The crossover was planned to be produced at Honda’s plant in Marysville (Ohio), which together with two other company facilities in the state Honda called an “EV Hub.”
Key technologies Honda officially stated for the 0 SUV and the entire series:
- ASIMO OS — the car’s proprietary operating system with over-the-air updates; the name was taken from Honda’s well-known robot.
- Level 3 autopilot — a mode in which the driver can take their eyes off the road; Honda aimed to expand it to all driving situations.
- Body position control based on 3D gyroscopes — a technology carried over from robotics development.
- In-house processor together with Renesas — a target of up to 2,000 TOPS of computing power for models in the late 2020s.
Honda never released official specifications for the 0 SUV — power output, battery capacity, driving range, dimensions. The figures cited by the press (an 80–90 kWh battery and about 300 miles, that is roughly 480 km of range, as estimated by What Car?) remained assumptions.
When and why Honda canceled the 0 SUV
On March 12, 2026, Honda announced a revision of its electrification strategy and the cancellation of development and market launch of three electric vehicles: the Honda 0 SUV, Honda 0 Saloon, and Acura RSX. All three were to be produced in Ohio. The company explained that starting production and sales of these models at a time when demand for EVs is falling significantly would most likely have brought even greater losses.
Among the reasons Honda cited were the negative impact of changes in US tariff policy, and the fact that the brand would not be able to offer better value for money than new EV makers with short development cycles and strong software platforms. Honda estimated the total losses from the strategy revision at up to 2.5 trillion yen.
Instead, the company promised to strengthen its hybrid lineup, expand the model range, and improve price competitiveness in India, while bringing new EVs to market “flexibly, with a long-term perspective.” Notably, back in October 2025 Honda planned to sell in Japan, by the end of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2028, three 0-series models — Saloon, SUV, and 0 α. Of those three, only the 0 α remains in the plans.
What remains of the 0 series: the Honda 0 α crossover
The Honda 0 α (Alpha) prototype debuted on October 29, 2025 at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo. Honda calls it the “entry” model of the 0 series: a crossover that is meant to look equally at home in the city and in nature. A low roof was combined with retained ground clearance, and the wide track emphasizes stability.
Design details from the prototype’s official description:
- at the front — a single “screen” panel combining the headlights, charge port door, and an illuminated logo;
- at the rear — U-shaped lighting graphics that bring together the tail lights, reverse lights, and turn signals.
On March 16, 2026, Honda Cars India began road tests of the 0 α across India — on highways, in cities, and on challenging roads, including in heat and during the monsoon season. The model will be produced at Honda’s plant in Tapukara (Rajasthan) both for the domestic market and for export. Honda is targeting a commercial launch in India in fiscal year 2026–27, and global sales of the production 0 α — primarily in India and Japan — for 2027.
Honda has not disclosed technical specifications for the 0 α yet either. According to electrive.com, the car will receive two LFP battery options with CATL cells, and it is not planned to be sold in Europe, Australia, or the USA.
How the 0 α differs from the canceled 0 SUV
| Parameter | Honda 0 SUV | Honda 0 α |
|---|---|---|
| Prototype premiere | CES 2025, Las Vegas, January 2025 | Japan Mobility Show, Tokyo, 29.10.2025 |
| Class | mid-size crossover | “entry” 0-series crossover |
| Plant | Marysville, Ohio (USA) | Tapukara, Rajasthan (India) |
| First markets | North America, then globally | India and Japan |
| Planned start | first half of 2026 | 2027 |
| Status as of September 2026 | canceled on 12.03.2026 | road tests since 16.03.2026 |
For the Ukrainian buyer, the conclusion is simple: no 0-series model is officially coming here. The 0 SUV was canceled, and the 0 α is focused on Asia.
Which Honda electric crossovers are already on the road in Ukraine
While the 0 series is finding its footing, electric Honda on our roads is primarily the e:N family of crossovers. The European Honda e:Ny1 and the Chinese Honda e:NS1 and e:NP1 are already showing up on Ukrainian roads, and for the USA Honda produces the Honda Prologue.
For the e:NS1 and e:NP1, the DD Tuning catalog offers model-specific accessories: wind deflectors with a chrome molding, aluminum side step bars, stainless steel door-sill covers, mud flaps, and 3D floor mats. The selection is on the pages for Honda e:NP1 tuning and Honda e:NS1 tuning, and the rest of the brand’s models are in the Honda tuning section.
We deliver via Nova Poshta across all of Ukraine.
