Lancia Gamma 2026: Lancia returns to the crossover segment

Lancia is returning to the C segment — and this time not with a sedan or a hatchback, but with a crossover. The new Lancia Gamma is a fastback crossover 4.67 m long, built in Italy on the Stellantis STLA Medium platform. The model is offered with a hybrid engine and in three electric versions — from 145 to 375 hp. Here is what is already officially known, and what is so far only according to the press.

What the new Lancia Gamma is and when it was unveiled
The official premiere took place on May 26, 2026 in Rome, at the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy. The model was presented by Minister Adolfo Urso, Basilicata Region President Vito Bardi, Stellantis Chief Operating Officer in Europe Emanuele Cappellano, and Lancia CEO Antonella Bruno. The public saw the car in person on September 11, 2026 at the Turin Motor Show, followed by the Paris Motor Show, running from October 12 to 18, 2026. In the press release for Paris, Stellantis directly calls Gamma Lancia’s return to the C-class crossover segment.
For the brand, this is the second model after the revived Ypsilon hatchback and the first full-fledged family car in many years. Lancia emphasizes that Gamma was designed, developed, and refined in Italy, and is assembled at the Stellantis plant in Melfi (the Basilicata region).
From the 1976 sedan to the 2026 crossover
The Gamma name comes from the brand’s history. The first Lancia Gamma was produced from 1976 to 1984 and served as the brand’s flagship: the Berlina fastback sedan designed by Leonardo Fioravanti at Pininfarina, and a coupe drawn by Aldo Brovarone. Under the hood were flat-four engines of 2.0 and 2.5 L with outputs of 120 and 140 hp. Over eight years, about 22,000 cars were built — 15,272 sedans and 6,790 coupes.
The new Gamma is not a retro replica, but it shares with the original the fastback idea: a sloping roof and a long, tapering rear section. The launch was timed to two dates — Lancia’s 120th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the original Gamma.
Design: a “goblet” of light and a coupe-like profile
The silhouette is coupe-like: the roof arcs and smoothly slopes down toward the rear, the rear window is steeply raked, and the protective cladding along the lower body reminds you that this is still a crossover. Key details described by Italian outlets that saw the car in person:
- at the front — a thin light strip across the entire hood with a vertical element in the center: this is how Lancia reinterprets its classic “goblet” grille (calice);
- the same theme of three thin light lines is repeated in the rear lamps;
- active shutters at the front open for cooling and close for better aerodynamics;
- the front door handles are retractable, the rear ones are hidden in the window frame;
- a large rear spoiler above an almost vertical tailgate.
Dimensions and the STLA Medium platform
Gamma is based on the modular STLA Medium platform — the same as the third-generation Peugeot 3008, Opel Grandland, Citroen C5 Aircross, and Jeep Compass. Its closest relative is the DS N°7: it is built at the same plant in Melfi, has similar dimensions, and the same range of powertrains. For comparison: DS N°8 on the same architecture is about 15 cm longer and noticeably lower.
| Parameter | Lancia Gamma |

| Wheelbase | around 2790 mm (according to the press) |

Lancia has not yet announced the exact trunk volume. It is known that the tailgate opens with an electric drive, and there is an additional compartment under the floor.
Powertrains: a hybrid and three EV versions
Gamma is a multi-energy model, like other cars on STLA Medium. Officially, Lancia named four versions:
| Version | Power | Range (claimed) |
|---|---|---|
| Hybrid | 145 hp | over 1000 km on one tank |
| Electric | 230 hp | over 540 km |
| Electric Long Range | 245 hp | over 740 km |
| Electric, twin-motor, all-wheel drive | 375 hp | up to 675 km |
145 hp hybrid
According to the Italian press, this is the familiar Stellantis 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic. The setup is simple and proven on the Peugeot 3008 and Opel Grandland, and the claimed 1000+ km is range on a full tank, not consumption.
Electric versions
The entry-level electric Gamma has 230 hp, the mid-level Long Range has 245 hp and the longest range in the lineup, over 740 km. Lancia does not specify battery capacities in the press release; the media mentions around 74 and 97 kWh — the same modules as on the DS N°7. The top version with two electric motors and all-wheel drive produces 375 hp; according to Quattroruote, it will be called HF Integrale and will get a wider track and ventilated brakes — a direct reference to Lancia’s rally heritage.
Interior: a center “table” and ribbed fabrics
The interior is built around the signature element of the new Lancia — a round “table” (tavolino) on the center console, here combined with a wireless smartphone charging pad. In front of the driver is a digital instrument cluster, in the center — a wide multimedia screen with the S.A.L.A. system, through which both multimedia and the climate control are managed, with separate zones for the driver and passenger. According to Carscoops, the screen diagonals are 10.25 and 16 inches, and the roof is panoramic.
- the trim combines leather and technical fabrics, with ribbed stitching on the seats;
- on the side of the seat — a small Italian tricolor;
- steering wheel with a ribbed pattern that references classic Lancia models;
- the rear floor is flat, and rear headroom was preserved despite the sloping roof;
- in HF Line trim — front seats with pronounced side bolsters and integrated headrests.
When sales start and how much it will cost
The first cars are already undergoing road tests. Lancia promised to open orders after summer 2026, and prices, according to the Italian press, will be announced at the Paris Motor Show in October. The first customer deliveries are expected in 2027. There are no official price lists yet — all figures circulating online are media estimates, not manufacturer data. Stellantis has not announced official plans for Ukraine.
Mats and roof rails: what the owner will need
There are no model-specific accessories for Gamma yet: the car has not gone on sale. But two issues will face the owner right away — protecting the cabin floor and carrying luggage on the roof.
- Mats. Light-colored fabrics and leather in the cabin are quickly damaged by wet shoes. Until model-specific sets appear, universal mats with a raised edge and a trunk mat of the appropriate size will do — Gamma’s flat rear floor makes this convenient.
- Roof rails and crossbars. Lancia has not yet specified whether Gamma will get factory roof rails and of what type, and it has a panoramic roof. Once it becomes clear, it is worth choosing either crossbars for integrated rails, or universal roof rails matched to the roof length. Load on a panoramic roof is limited, so before buying a roof box, check the allowable weight in the vehicle’s manual.
Accessories for other models of the brand are collected in the Lancia tuning section.
