Peugeot E-208 GTi is the first electric GTi in the brand’s history: a front-wheel-drive hatchback with a 207 kW (281 hp) motor and 345 Nm, 0–100 km/h in 5.5 s, a mechanical limited-slip differential, and a 54 kWh battery (51 kWh usable). The production version was shown at Le Mans on 12 June 2026. In France, the car starts from €42,900, orders have been open since June, and the first customer deliveries are expected in autumn 2026.

What the E-208 GTi is and where it came from

GTi is the badge Peugeot associates with its “hot” hatchbacks. The previous Peugeot 208 GTi with a 1.6-liter turbo petrol engine had 208 hp, 300 Nm, and accelerated to 100 km/h in 6.5 s — we covered it in a review of the three-door 208 GTi. The new E-208 GTi is the first in this line to be fully electric. It was developed by Peugeot Sport and Peugeot Design in France based on the regular E-208.

The concept was shown at Le Mans on 13 June 2025; at the time Peugeot quoted 280 hp and 5.7 s. The production car was unveiled at the same venue on 12 June 2026: at a press conference, brand director Alain Favey announced the final figures. They turned out to be slightly better than the concept’s — 281 hp and 5.5 s to 100 km/h. Peugeot itself notes that the production version is “incredibly close” to the concept.

How much power it has and how quick it is

The electric motor sits at the front and drives the front wheels via a single-speed transmission. It produces 207 kW (281 hp) and 345 Nm. According to electrive, 0–100 km/h takes 5.5 s (0.2 s quicker than initially promised), 80–120 km/h takes 3.2 s, and 0–1000 m takes 25.8 s. Top speed is limited to 180 km/h. The power-to-weight ratio is 5.5 kg/hp.

According to Motoring Research, the E-208 GTi is 1.3 s quicker to 100 km/h than the Volkswagen ID. Polo GTI — we wrote about it in a review of the Volkswagen ID. Polo. Automotive World also counts the Alpine A290, Abarth 600e, and Mini JCW Electric among its rivals.

What was changed in the chassis, brakes, and differential

Peugeot did not stop at a more powerful motor. The chassis was worked on by Peugeot Sport engineers — the same division that builds the 9X8 racing hypercars. Reportedly, 9X8 drivers who tested the car would not change anything about its handling. The main changes:

  • Differential. A mechanical limited-slip differential is integrated into the gearbox. It distributes drive between the front wheels in corners, and this is the main answer to the question about “differential locking.”
  • Ground clearance and track. The body sits 25 mm lower (some outlets cite 30 mm; the final figure will come from the technical documentation), the front track is 56 mm wider, and the rear track is 28 mm wider.
  • Suspension. Specific springs and dampers, hydraulic rebound stops, and a new rear anti-roll bar with a 31 mm diameter (the front remains 17 mm).
  • Brakes. 355 mm front discs with fixed four-piston calipers.
  • Wheels. 18-inch retro-style wheels — a nod to the Speedline wheels on the 205 GTI — with 215/40 R18 tires.

What the range is and how fast it charges

The 54 kWh battery (51 kWh usable) is the same as in the regular E-208, but with improved cooling. The stated WLTP range depends on the tires: 375 km on Hankook Ventus S1 Evo3 (offered at no extra cost) and 352 km on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Earlier reports of 350 km referred to the concept.

DC fast charging is up to 100 kW: 20 to 80% in under 30 minutes. In the UK specification, V2L is included as standard, allowing the car to supply power to external devices.

How much it costs and when deliveries start

In France, the E-208 GTi starts from €42,900. In the UK, the price is £34,995, or £33,495 after a £1,500 government discount on electric cars. There is one configuration, with no choice of motors or trims.

The timing is worth clarifying: “sales start in autumn” is not entirely accurate. Orders in France opened during Le Mans in June 2026, in the Netherlands on 18 June, and in the UK in July. Autumn refers to the first deliveries: France’s Journal de l'Automobile writes about autumn 2026, while the UK’s Motoring Research mentions November. There is no official information on sales in Ukraine.

How it differs from the regular E-208 outside and inside

On the outside, the GTi is distinguished by a new front bumper with red accents that are echoed on the wheel arches, calipers, and rear spoiler. Seven body colors are available, including classic red, black, and white, as well as gray and yellow. The interior is finished in red: floor mats, seat belts, stitching, and sports seats, red ambient lighting and screen background. In the UK specification, standard equipment includes a 10-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree camera, and keyless entry.

What to choose for a Peugeot 208 owner

For owners of the second-generation Peugeot 208, our catalog includes products for the Peugeot 208 from 2019. These include interior mats specifically for the electric version: EVA, textile Premium and Deluxe, as well as a trunk mat. In the catalog, mats are separated into “Petrol” and “Electric” variants — for the electric 208, choose “Electric”. For the GTi, it is better to confirm compatibility with a manager — there is not yet an official floor specification for this version in the public domain.

Window deflectors for the second-generation Peugeot 208 are not yet available in the catalog — model-specific ones exist only for the first generation from 2012–2019. Want a more aggressive silhouette on a regular 208 — we have universal spoilers made of ABS plastic, selected to match the width of the trunk lid. The GTi itself already has a spoiler from the factory.
