From a standard BMW G30 to an M5 Competition 2021: what was installed

A BMW 5 Series G30 Pre-LCI came to us, imported from the USA after an accident. The car had body damage and required a full restoration. The owner decided not only to return the car to its original look, but to completely refresh the exterior in the style of the 2021 BMW M5 Competition.

The project was carried out in Chernivtsi together with our partner service center. The full cycle took 60 days and included body straightening, installation of new parts, test-fitting the facelift kit, preparing elements for painting, assembly, and final adjustment of body panel gaps.

Condition of the car on arrival

The BMW G30 was purchased in the USA with body damage. Before the retrofit began, specialists performed an inspection and assessment of the vehicle and determined the scope of the required restoration work.

The main task was not just to replace damaged parts, but to properly restore the body and prepare the car for a full facelift. This made it possible to repair accident damage and simultaneously update the look of the pre-facelift BMW G30 to a more modern version in the style of the 2021 M5 Competition.

Full BMW G30 facelift in M5 Competition style

The foundation of the project was the BMW G30 facelift kit to M5 F90 Facelift.

This is a comprehensive retrofit solution for the BMW 5 Series G30 Pre-LCI. It allows you to transform the front and rear of the car, install modern lighting, new body elements, and create a cohesive look in the BMW M5 Competition style.

As part of the project, the following were installed:

• M5 Competition-style hood;
• front fenders;
• M5 front bumper assembly;
• kidney grille;
• facelift-type front headlights;
• facelift-type rear lights;
• M5 rear bumper assembly;
• side skirts;
• required fasteners and installation hardware.

Since the car originally was a pre-facelift version, the work was not limited to simply swapping bumpers. It was necessary to correctly install and fit the hood, fenders, lighting, side skirts, and other body elements.

Special attention was paid to body panel gaps, the positioning of the lights, and the compatibility of all parts with each other. The quality of the test-fit affects not only the appearance, but also the correctness of the final assembly.

Body straightening and restoration

Before installing the new kit, specialists at our partner service center performed the required body straightening work. The damaged areas were restored and prepared for installation of the new parts.

Main stages of the work:

1. Inspection and assessment after delivery from the USA.
2. Removal of damaged body parts.
3. Body straightening and restoration of damaged areas.
4. Checking body geometry.
5. Initial test-fit of the facelift kit.
6. Fitting the hood, fenders, bumpers, and side skirts.
7. Preparing new parts for painting.
8. Painting elements to match the body color.
9. Installing lighting and additional parts.
10. Final assembly and adjustment of body panel gaps.

Pre-fitting of the parts was carried out before painting. This is an important stage that allows you to check the position of each element in advance, eliminate possible inaccuracies, and avoid reworking already painted parts.

New wheels

After installing the M5 Competition kit, the stock wheels no longer matched the updated look of the car. That’s why new alloy wheels were selected for the BMW, complementing the sporty body design.

When choosing wheels for the BMW G30, it is important to consider:

• wheel diameter;
• front and rear wheel width;
• offset;
• bolt pattern and center bore;
• brake system clearance;
• recommended tire size;
• possible wheel-to-arch contact.

Properly selected wheels complete the exterior look of the car and do not create additional load on the suspension, hubs, and other chassis components.

DPT CS Style spoiler

A black DPT CS Style spoiler for BMW G30 was installed on the trunk lid.

The spoiler has a sporty shape, but doesn’t look overly bulky. It emphasizes the rear of the car and matches well with the new M5-style rear bumper.

The black color adds extra contrast with the body and supports the overall styling. Thanks to this, the rear of the BMW looks finished and more dynamic.

M-Look mirror caps

Another update element was the M-Look mirror caps with frames for BMW G30/G31.

Their shape resembles the mirror design of BMW M cars. It’s a relatively small detail, but it noticeably changes the look of the car from the front and side.

The M-Look mirror caps pair well with the spoiler, the new wheels, and the facelift kit. As a result, all installed elements look like parts of one project rather than separate random add-ons.

How long the work took

The full cycle of restoration and retrofit for the BMW G30 took 60 days.

This timeframe is due to the large scope of work. The car had to be restored after an accident, straightened, fitted with new body parts, go through several test-fitting stages, have elements prepared for painting, and then receive final assembly.

In a project like this, rushing can lead to incorrect panel gaps, misalignment of parts, mounting issues, or improper light positioning. That’s why all stages were carried out sequentially, with intermediate checks of the results.

Cost of the work performed

The total cost of the work package at our partner service center was 160,000 UAH.

This amount included:

• body straightening and restoration work;
• removal of damaged body elements;
• preparing the vehicle for the facelift;
• test-fitting and fitting the new kit;
• installation of body parts;
• preparing elements for painting;
• painting work;
• vehicle assembly;
• adjustment of body panel gaps;
• installation of the spoiler, mirrors, and other elements.

The cost of the facelift kit, wheels, spoiler, mirror caps, and other parts was calculated separately.

The final budget for such a retrofit always depends on the car’s initial condition, the nature of the damage, the need for body straightening work, the selected parts, and the complexity of installation.

The result

After completion, the pre-facelift BMW G30 received a fully updated exterior in the style of the 2021 M5 Competition.

The car got a new front and rear end, modern lighting, sporty bumpers, hood, fenders, side skirts, new wheels, a spoiler, and M-Look mirror caps.

Thanks to a comprehensive approach, all elements match well with each other. The car looks cohesive, not like a BMW with separate tuning parts installed.

At the same time, it’s important to understand that this is purely an exterior retrofit. The car does not become an original BMW M5 from a technical standpoint, since the real M5 has a different engine, transmission, braking system, suspension, and other design differences.

The main goal of the project was to properly restore a damaged BMW from the USA and create a modern sporty look in the M5 Competition style. As a result, the owner received a restored car with a completely transformed exterior.
